The allure of last season’s seven acre, traffic-stopping sunflower field had folks grabbing their cameras to capture the spectacular scene and take home a bit of Sussex County’s Sunshine®. As 2011 sunflower fields burst into bloom, visitors and residents are drawn to farm fields throughout the County to once again experience the enchantment and inspiration of acres of bright yellow flowers in bloom. Brodhecker Farm and have teamed together to organize the first annual sunflower photo contest with the hope of sharing the many photos of Sussex County’s Sunshine® taken in 2010 and 2011 with the world. Entry forms, contest details, prize information and a digital photo gallery for online entries can be accessed at:
The sunflower photo contest features opportunity for electronic and print entries of Sussex County grown sunflowers. Contest entries will be accepted until the October 15, 2011. Print entries will be accepted at Brodhecker Farm and will be used in a traveling exhibit in Sussex County in 2012. The Exhibit premiers at Brodhecker Farm on November 12, 2011. An artist’s reception, open to the public, is planned. Winners from the digital, print and digitally altered classes will be publically announced at that time. The Sussex County’s Sunshine® Exhibit will remain on display at the farm through the end of the year.
“We received so many emails, photos and notes from people who just wanted to share how much they appreciated the beauty of those fields,” said Phil Brodhecker.“It’s an unexpected benefit to the sunflower crop we planted for our Brodhecker Birdseed product. Our family and staff are really inspired by support and by the number of people who stop by to take photos or set up a canvas and paint the sunflower scene. When Nancy (Hreha) presented us with the opportunity to sponsor this photo contest we jumped onboard. NaturallySussex is a great way for folks to share their photos with the world. It’s a site that has credibility and presents the best of Sussex County’s community spirit. We’re excited to see the entries come in but glad we won’t have to try to judge the winners-that’s gonna be a tough job!”
