Sounds like the informant set him up. "hey man, meet me up at the school."

I like the part where he was a law abiding citizen until now. Right.

To my understanding, 1 year minimum means one year minimum, regardless of who you rat out. Seems like a tough price to pay for crossing an imaginary line with some plants.

1/4 mile down the road and he'd of gotten a slap on the wrist. Lesson learned to dealers. dont risk it.

That would be great if the detectives in Vernon didn't live in glass houses. One of them in charge of this investigation has 4 kids that have abused the law in their own special way. We have cell phone pictures of some of their antics and drug abuse. He's also known to tip off his kids when the Vernon police are about to crash in on a party that his kids are in attendance at. What a role model???? Horay to the Vernon patrolmen but BOOOOO to Vernon detectives!!!!

The Vernon detectives couldn't detect a fart in a phone booth. They are too busy with their useless lives. Let's all go follow the heroin users down to Paterson some more On Vernon taxpayer's dime with no outcome!!!!! But, yet we can send a relatively decent kid to jail for a year for some pot??????!!!! Are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!

Someone needs to review what is going on in our jails and put the REAL criminals behind bars.

Community service, probation and a good scare are all that is needed here.

Hey, leave those detectives alone. They (in the past) haave tried to clean up the drug traffic within the Township......they simply got hung up at Dunkin Doughnuts while running the investigation. LMAO

If there is someone on the force who is "tipping" the kids off when a party is going to be raided, call the State Police and report it. They have to investigate. If they find that to be the truth several heads will roll.

Somebody has never heard of the "blue wall".... No cop is going to drag another cop through the mud. Period.

You are bold to say that kids always rat other kids out. If you knew anybetter than you would know that police do not work with you no matter what they promise. Nice Try but you dont sound like you know the Judicial System well.

And you... having an informant set up this 19-year old man would be Entrapment, in other words a cop waiting for when you exit a bar parking lot, this is illegal. I am sure that this man's Lawyer is all over that in this case. And him being a law abiding citizen until now means that this was an isolated event. You have never made a mistake before? People should practice what they preach.

Mistakes? Sure. Selling dope? No. and you need a little lesson on what "entrapment" means, son.

My understanding from what I have heard in town is that the Vernon police were taping him for 4 months via his "friend" turned informant after he was busted himself with marijuana. I would imagine that the Vernon police had good reason listening to those 4 months worth of tapes to want this kid off the streets for a while. They intentionally set the sell up with the informant at the high school knowing this kid would get 3 years jail sentence with a minimum of 1 year for selling on school property. I feel bad for this kids family and the kid himself - bad decision on his part to sell on high school grounds even to a supposed "friend". I understand this is a good family and the whole thing is sad but I have to believe the Vernon police had reason to ruin this kids live. There had to be something they heard on those tapes....

I have heard the same exact thing about a local police officer. I have also heard that he is the biggest jerk and beats his wife. No wonder why some of his kids are out of control.

yes, you got that right. I've seen her for YEARS in church with bruises and arms in slings. Bit too suspicious too me. Once or twice; ok, but, I've seen her for her for 20 years with bruises. He is an arrogant good for nothing tax payer wasting piece of garbage who could not detect a fart in a phone booth. His sons are out of control arrogant idiots with their own very serious drug problems and his daughters are fat classless future domestic violence victims.

I dont know anything about the kids other than I hear that they are not the angels their parents think they are. I dont want to say anything bad about them because hopefully there is hope they mature into respectable adults. The wife I feel bad for. Having been in a domestic violence situation before myself I can only hope if it is going on she gets the strength for herself and her children to leave. the police officer seems to have a God complex. I have a feeling a long therapy session is in order for him to realize he is not God and cannot have control over others. In the meantime, God (the REAL God !) bless this 19 year old and look over him while he is in jail and help his family as well get through this most difficult time.

Totally agree with you. I hope this family is able to cope with the loss of their son to a state prison when low down drug addicts doing heroin do no time at all and here is a kid with alot of potential doing state prison term. Also, sex offenders in this town absolutely do not see this level of prison time. This town is filled with crack pot red neck tobacco spitting jerks.

I dont think you all have the whole story about this situation. This boy is a great kid sure - BUT HE SOLD ILLEGAL DRUGS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS. He got the time he got for doing it on school grounds. Everyone in the world knows of this law so why in the world would he deal on school property? Also, marijuana is the gateway drug. That is a fact that has been proven over and over and over again. this kid would of eventually been dealing the cocaine and heroin. Statistically most do. If you dont like Vernon then move. It is that simple. This town is full of wonderful, caring and loving families. Dont let the few bad eggs think the whole town is bad.

Just make sure it's not your kid doing the "gateway drug". Those that live in glass houses should not throw stones because what goes around comes around 10 fold. Be sure that it's not your kid that was set up and got a year for selling marijuana. Focus on the real killer drugs!! Like I said, just be sure it's not your kid because chances are if you have teenagers, they are smoking pot (whether you know it or want to admit it yourself and be thankful that's all they are doing)
