"For the 2011 Delaware farmers market season, 16 Delaware farmers markets grossed more than $1.8 million in sales, a more than $400,000 increase over 2010. As in past years, the season began in April and ended in October. 2011 is the sixth straight year of Delaware farmers markets increasing sales to consumers."

This is great, the local food supply is getting better and better every year. We all wait with bated breath for Haskell's to open and for the first, best of your life EVER, crop of corn to come in. Buying fresh is great, getting it just down the road is a blessing! Pink

I have always purchased from Famer's Markets, stands. They are local business, they have fresh products, and I like the shopping environment. We have a small stand up this way, Marini's on Veale Road, top shelf everything.

We used to go to Marini's when we lived over that way. They were good, and I remember all the kids worked during the summer.

Thanks for the heads-up on Marini's-- does anyone happen to know their schedule? I shop all the time at farmers' markets but as far as I know, the only one anywhere near me that is open year-round is the New Castle one on Rt. 40 (though it only opens on weekends). Once some folks from NJ happened to be stocking up on their way to a shore vacation and they seemed literally in shock at the great prices, compared to their usual prices, even though they're supposed to be the "Garden State". It was pretty funny--- I made them promise to keep our secret so we didn't get overrun by the out-of-state shoppers.

They are in Christmas tree mode now, wreaths things like that. They open in the spring and are open until Nov.1 I think, then switch over to Christmas stuff.

Try the Farmer's Market up in Boothwynn,(The Sale to the locals). Take Foulk Road over the PA border, about 1.5 miles turn left at the second light in PA and your there. Open all year Friday and Saturday, Amish, fresh goods, most hand made.

First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden have been tireless leaders in promoting the food revolution back to wholesome locally produced agriculture that is organically grown without petroleum-based fertilizers and toxic pesticides.
