Thank you for sharing the opinion of the Sierra Club. As a Surry resident, it is my opinion that the jobs brought to the area as a result of this modern, state of the art, efficient facility will far outweigh any concerns you might have about a negative impact on the environment. And we won't be buying the coal from Saudi Arabia. This is an economic and national security issue. Our county already hosts a nuclear power plant. It is clean and safe, a model for the industry. People like you who attempt to block every rational step toward energy independence are part of the problem, not the solution.

Another two unit nuclear power plant would be even nicer. Think of all of the high paying construction and engineering jobs that would bring to Surry County, not to mention the huge additional tax base for the county. I say go for it.

A new coal-fired power plant will release toxins that will damage the local forests (forget CO2) that make the Hampton Roads area so beautiful and a national tourist destination. There are many alternate sources of power, including nuclear, that would do far less damage to the community. At a minimum, a new coal plant should not be built in a location as important to the national heritage as Williamsburg-James Town-York Town.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Cancer

Be careful today Cancer, because your emotions could cloud certain issues as they often to and leave you feeling confused. You should be especially wary of believing what you want to believe, rather than believing the evidence in front of your eyes. It's easy to kid yourself now about someone's motives or reliability, even if deep down you know that you're telling yourself a load of old twaddle.
