Dow Roofing to Close Surry County Plant - WGHP

Dow Roofing Systems announced on Friday it will close its plant in Westfield. The company says at least 100 people work at the plant.

This plant isn't in Surry County. It's located in the Collinstown Community of Northwest Stokes County, NC. It has a Westfield address, but it's approx 10 miles from the Westfield Community.

Isn't it grand? The economy is recovering. Surry County is about to open a new business; adding jobs. Oops, but now we see one closing; eliminating jobs. Now that's recovery we can live with ;-)

Well, it didn't take long, (about a year after Dow Chemical bought Stevens Roofing) for the smartest guys in the room to put them out of business, It may have been the plan all along as the word is that Dow bought the business and equipment in the building but not the building and land in Collingstown. If that is the case I wonder if the equipment will be moved out and to where... Hummmmm.

Dow bought Stevens because Stevens owed so much money to Dow for chemicals they had purchased and not paid for. Dow just canned most of their independent reps last week and are now running with company people. They are also buying their membrane from JM...so the equipment is worthless. There is nothing left of Stevens anymore.

The biggest suppliers to Stevens Westfield was not Dow so I have trouble with that. Also the word is that Dow, over the last few weeks, just spent something like $250,000 with an outside contractor to clean the dust and everything else in the place. JM is in the mix for sure... stay tuned....The Reps are gone I wonder about the other sales guys.?
