Wouldn't it be safer to take the kids out for ice cream? Who really likes the 5 day old garbage that is left to rot inside that poor excuse for a vehicle anyway? Besides I could really do without the monotonous noise blasting out of the tin $2.00 speaker. The 50"s are over !!!!

Actually, back in the 50s, ice cream was sold from clean, white trucks, with bells that were rung by the driver. I agree, I hate that obnoxious, irritating noise played by these sleazy looking rigs today.

And the driver wore a nice clean white uniform and you knew him by name (ours was Nick the ice cream man)and he understood what you asked for on the first try. I agree, the age of the ice cream truck has passed.

I used to love the Music Box Dancer tune until I had to hear it four blocks in each direction from a terrible sound system.

A kid from muy community was hit by a car and killed in the late 1970's after buying ice cream from a truck. Result? The Town banned all ice cream trucks.

When possible children should be escorted across streets where vendor is located; children are high spirited and there should always be someone responsible with them. Let's be honest accidents happen sometimes when we are right there.

But let us all watch out for all the children. They are our future.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

You also need to discuss the number of children hit and hurt or killied while just walking to and from school! Children walking to and from school become targets for predators, bullies, diseases (both tick and mosquito)as well as getter sick due to weather as well as other things. If you looked into this you may find the numbers more staggering than with ice cream trucks. Yet no one does anything about this! Changes should be made and all children should be given bussing regardless of where they live. Parents who drive their kids to school actually do more harm than good as it blocks the way for buses as well as emergency vehicles should an emergency occur. I've tried in my district but no one seems to care. What will it take to make a change? An important persons child to die?

A seven year old has no business going in the street. I never let my kids do that and I bought them ice cream else where. Sounds like somebody's mom and dad don't keep a good watch on their kids. If the boy doesn't listen to them, put a separate lock on the door or move. What's more important, ice cream or making your kid understand what no means

This saddens me, as a highly recommended flavor, and ps not flavor flav. Oreo Icecream says this kids parents are to blame. The parents said they were running after the kid when he got hit. Why can't a parent catch a 7 y/o kid ?-- how about lock you front door in that ghetto you live in ! and the kid would not have gotten out of the house. I am supprised this was not a drive by shooting in this neighborhood.

That seems like a million years ago. These guys use the lowest standard possible in their appearance, the truck, the so called ice cream etc., etc. Kids today really missed out. At the playground, this big fat dirtbag had on a "wifebeater" and what looked like boxers on. Ugh - excuse me, I have to throw up.

We had Chet.(Good Humor) I'll never forget the sound that little door made when he closed it. It always amazed me how without looking, he'd stick his hand in there and pull out the correct ice cream. We were already outside playing - not let loose from our locked doors and constant supervision of today. Can't even describe those days to kids now.

We were also running through the "smoke" from the "fog machine" driven by the mosquito man. And to think we're all still alive.

We didn't need that - we had good old fashioned mosquitos, not the mutant kind around today. We did have the 50 foot woman and the incredible shrinking man from all the nuclear testing. Oh, and giant ants, lobsters, tomatoes.....All kidding aside, I hope the kid is alright.

Do we really need these ice cream trucks?

Nine kids since 1990 - 9 too many.

Ban these time bombs.

If you want ice cream, buy it in the supermarket or go to an ice cream store.

some towns - the smart ones that protect our kids - ban ice cream trucks

Seriously, for the 6 bucks I'll spend on two ice cream sticks for my children from the ice cream man, I can get two entire boxes of the stuff. Ban these expensive temptations. If my kids really want a treat, I'll take them to stop and shop and they can pick out their own 6 pack of frozen goodness.

Unfortuantley even with these "safe measures" I still see two many kids dart into the street unattended and two many morons flying past the truck without stopping.

And when you turn your back to get the box out of the frozen food section, one of your kids stands up in the cart and topples out onto the floor. Your other child who is swinging from the handle of the cart pulls it over onto the child who has smacked his head. A knot is forming on his forehead. You grab a popsicle out of the box and put it on his head to reduce the swelling. You then grab a bag of frozen peas to place on the bruise that was caused by the toppled cart. This could all have been averted if you had stayed loyal to the Good Humor man. ;)
