Khalima was among a group of young people walking in the roadway and was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet at about 11:40 p.m. Friday, police said. She hit the car's windshield and suffered head trauma and multiple broken bones, police said. She was taken by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue and later moved to Stony Brook.

Lauren Staut, 17, of Bellport, the driver, was going north on Station Road in North Bellport when her vehicle hit the child, police said. Staut, who police said has a senior license, was not injured in the crash, but was treated at Brookhaven Memorial and released after a person at the scene hit her in the face.

There were two other young women in the car with her, ages 18 and 16, and neither was injured, police said.

Staut was not charged in connection with the crash, police said.

An 11 year old walking in the street at 11:40PM??? AND ONE OF THE IDIOTS WITH HER ASSAULTS THE DRIVER???? i hope the driver presses charges against the pig that hit her in the face. THAT was no accident.

I understand that this 11 year old girl is the victim, but it was the carelessness of the pedestrian and whomever was with her to let her walk out into the street. I have driven these streets before and late at night, it is near to impossible to see that much in front of you, even with headlights shining. That mother is ridiculous for not being able to accept a 17 year old's apology because it is OBVIOUS that she did not do it with malice nor intent. And she probably feels absolutely terrible. And two other people in the car didn't see her either? That must tell how hard it was to see the road.

I really doubt the pedestrians accompanying this young girl were being vigilant enough. There's only so much you can do as a driver. If you're not walking closer to the curb, then you will suffer the consequences of just that, on Station Rd, which is barely lit as it is. Who in the world lets their ELEVEN year old child walk around at midnight? Doesn't matter who's with them, because it's obvious that THEY were careless, reckless, and stupid. I mean, was it necessary to assault the girl? I, too hope Lauren presses charges, and I hope she knows that this is a complete accident, and not beat herself up because that girl's stubborn mother won't accept an apology.

These animals beat Lauren up before the police get there and now her family and her are receiving threating calls on their phone non stop. What is a 11 year old doing out at almost midnight getting "candy" walking on station road. Lauren lives on our street and she's a sweet young girl. She feels horrible about what happen.

it is a gorilla pack mentality--you see it outside high schools, on the city subways when school lets out, crossing Sunrise Highway in Copiague when school lets out, in community pools and i used to see it in my high school. they'd herd together causing problems, misbehaving and all the white teachers would be afraid to say anything, lest they'd be labeled "racist."

this is the culture that always has stabbings and guns at baby showers--at 3am.

go into any minority neighborhood and there is no sense of appropriateness as far as when one "hangs out." even on cold winter nights, grown men are lurking on street corners and in front of homes.

i feel for this poor 11 year old but any parent who lets their child wander out even with teen supervision is not a good parent, it is so hard to see these people walking around at night sometimes they walk in the middle of the road wearing dark clothes i have seen it many times.
i feel for Lauren because she was put in this position due to stupidity of kids wandering at midnight now she has to pay the penalty.

people are unreal to me! defending this girl and making it sound okay that this poor 11 year old girl could die, cuz she was out getting candy or wutever. the only one to blame is lauren the girl who hit her, she was not even suppose to be driving, and incase you all didnt know she was texting on her cell phone while it happen. an 11 year old girl is gonna lose her life and you all are making excuses and making it okay... its disgusting! im glad lauren got her ass kicked... dont make this sound okay, its totally wrong, if lauren was home like she was suppose to be and not out driving around with her friends then this wouldnt of happen, if you wanna say the 11 year old shouldnt of been out then neither should of lauren.... unreal to me.. a child she is and she might die... i dont feel bad for lauren at all! she shouldnt of been driving and texting... and you know what i know lauren personally... i hope she can never sleep again! and i could really care less which one of my relatives sees this or wutever.. its disgusting and dont make excuses for this girl!!

Nuff blame to go around for all. The drivers mother for letting her out late at night at 17. Picking up 2 other girls to go to a party. allegedly texting while driving. not enough experience behind the wheel. For the other side I have serious concerns about any parent letting an 11 year old out at that time of night to go to the store to buy whatever. she had no business being out that late at night no matter who was watching her. Apparently whoever it was was not doing a very good job. I also hear that the driver lied to the cars owner and that she went out without her knowledge. I feel sorry for all and not so sorry for the parents of both who made the unhappy choices that led to this. nuff said

you might be right about the 17 year old not driving at night. but, did the thug pack who assaulted her first verify that she didn't have a drive from work permit? your post is a perfect example of thug mentality--because they had no right to beat her even if she wasn't suppossed to be driving. just like the things that killed the illegal alien had not right to harm him just because he was here illegally.

and that 11 year old was NOT supposed to be there in the street--hitting her with the car was an accident. thug beatings are not.

Like I said, there were 2 moron's at work that night. Moron #1, the supposed parent, that let a 17 year old go out to a party after 11 pm at night. And the word is, that the owner of the car was not asked to use it. So it went out the driveway without the owners knowledge. So its the same old story, ask one parent, if the answer is no then go ask the other. Oh and was she the driver allowed to have the other 2 girls in the car, I doubt it. Then you have moron number 2 that let the 11 year old go out the door after 11 pm.. Both need to have the kids taken away if that's the best they can do at parenting. My only hope is that they can afford a good lawyer, and have plenty of insurance. They are going to need it, and then some.

Its horrible that an 11 year old girl is in the hospital due to a 17 year old drivers negligence, and the poor choice's by victim's Mother. We should all put our Opinions aside and Push harder for the prayers of the two CHILDREN involved! The one suffering in the hospital and the teenage driver that will have the weight of her irresponsible actions on her shoulders for the rest of her life!........ Keep them in your PRAYERS !!!!!
