The last time I was exploring the North Rim in the Grand Canyon there was smog as bad as gets in Phoenix. The was coming from the coal fired power plant in Page. The answer is Nuclear Power for that place. Three Mile Island happened 30 years ago but it hindered the expansion of it's use in this country. Thanks to the over zealous environmentalists. It's time give this form of energy another looks because this problem plagues the entire West.
As for the energy problem in Wyoming, they need to find ways to clean that up. We need the gas now but we need to find other ways to power our cars and heat our homes. I'm afraid though that we are going to have to wait until gas hits 8 dollars a gallon, before we wake up. On that issue economics is in the diver's seat. |

Dear sir--as a resident of the Texas Gulf Coast where (gasp-petrochemical factories abound and the trout and redfish fishing is so good that people from all over pay to fish here) I do take offense at your worries of a spoiled environment and losing your heritage of a pristine existence. We need to be energy independent as a country.Feel free to drive your 4-wheel drive truck and towing your boat to your local fishing holes.I do support that--however--what price are you willing to pay? I would bet your fishing spots are not accesible by walking, biking(the real bike not motorcycle)--the good spots never are--the Texas gulf Coast--where i live is home to the largest petrochemical facilities on earth--yet we have some of the finest fishing ,hunting in the world. Would you doubt this? Finding the match of technology vs nature is challenging but not impossible as we have proven--the biggest problem is fear--oil and gas exploration is carefully controlled (many of the workers/bosses/ceos) are ardent wildlife people--I bet you have seen many of them in your home state. Please do not let radical environmentalism take our freedoms--there is a middle ground--there is a way to be free and yet still have our lifestyle--I write these comments from a beautiful natural area not 25 miles from the largest petrochemical facilities in the world--thank you for hearing me--Seth

The air in Wyoming completely replaces itself every thirty seconds. Yes, we have a lot of wind; as much as places in Lincoln County. We have a very strong environmental agency that takes care of problems in a timely manner. There is not one place in our state that has the pollution of El Paso or Albuquerque. Unfortunately the air pollution from these two cities covers vast areas of New Mexico on any given day.
