31-year-old Dover cold case reopened

For one Dover family, it's a pain that hasn't gone away for 31 years. In 1980, two teenage girls were found murdered just outside their hometown.

I remember when this happened. I will be watching it very closely. I really hope this doesn't fall through the cracks like it did the first time. I grew up in this community and would really like to see closure to this once and for all.

Thank you very much! I'm originally from Dover. Went to school and raised my kids there. I've been in Alabama now for about 9 years. All of my family is still there though.

I would really like to see this thing solved. I had actually forgotten about it until a young woman in west TN went missing back in April. It is a very sad thing for the parents to not have closure. I just can't imagine the pain.

You know, the funny thing about it is I don't really remember a great deal of talk about it at the time. It all happened about a month before my twins were born and remember it well. I just don't remember people talking about it like you would think. Maybe I was just out of the loop.

I ran across another topix forum a while back and one of the family had posted something about it. They named a name out right but it was one I had not heard before. They said he had left town afterward and stayed gone for a long time but was not back in Stewart Co. This post was done about a year ago. It kinda threw me for a loop because I really don't remember even hearing a name of a suspect. But this person sounded very adamant about it. They also said that the mother of the girls was very sick and wanted a closure before she passed away. That was very sad. I just can't imagine the pain this caused.

I agree. But if they haven't said anything in 30 years, chances are they won't.

I found the post Ollie, thanks! I actually had found that a long time ago before I joined Topix but forgot where it was. I'm curious on why it would have been posted in that particular forum and not a Dover forum. I left them a response. It didn't look as though they posted anything else but I'm hoping they check from time to time.

I notice from your location you are in Dover? Do you happen to know any of the family?

I didn't know these girls very well, But I did know there brothers and older sisters they were very good people,
Wish they would find the killer and put this to rest. These people don't need this mess

Do you know if any of them were the ones that posted here on Topix about a year ago? I left a message on their post but I'm thinking that they probably haven't been back. I would be interested in talking with one of them. I do independent investigations on my own time and have currently been working on some stuff for the Holly Bobo case in west TN. I would like to help out with this case also if they are interested in receiving it. I understand the new sheriff has reopened the case (which I am really glad about) and I've done a little digging on it on my own but there really isn't a great deal to go on. I keep hitting a dead end. I was living in Dover when it happened but I just don't remember a great deal of talk going on about it. If the suspicions that the poster I mentioned earlier are true, I can definitely see why.

If you happen to talk to any of the family, would you mind asking them if they would be interested in my help? I can be contacted here through Topix. Just send me a personal message and let me know. I don't have an agenda and I'm not out for fame or fortune. I am just a very resourceful person that wants to help out these families to give them closure and hopefully a sort of peace. Thanks, but I didn't mention a post. I tried to find it but haven't yet. I do live in Dover, but I don't know the family. I don't remember this other than knowing it happened. I was too young. Haven't seen anything about this in the news or anything in some time. Anything new?

No, as far as I know, nothing new. I don't live in Dover any more. My family does still though. Yall will probably hear something before I will. I'm really hoping the new sheriff will hold to his word about trying to solve this thing. I hate to think that someone just got off scott free for 30 years. And it is no telling what else they have done in the meantime!

Yes ... VERY slow. I see you are from Big Rock. I read that they were re-opening this case. Do you happen to know if anything has been done or found out? I know they probably don't talk about it but I thought maybe someone might hear something. It has been a while since I read it was re-opened.

You know, another really bad part about this is the fact that at the time it was deer hunting season. Hunters come from all over to hunt LBL. It could have been anyone from anywhere that did this. If so, they may never find out who did it. This is just so sad.

Actually I was at McDonald's in Dover hitting their wifi. I haven't heard or seen anything in a while.:(
