County clerks see red over DMV change

County clerks across New York are railing against the state for dropping the vision-test requirement to renew a driver's license, saying what was touted as a way to streamline the process puts public safety at risk.

its all about the money.

i wonder how many people each year fail the eye exam which of course means they don't PAY the state for their license? multiply that number by the cost of getting your license and that's how much extra cash the state will have to misappropriate each year.

also, the state takes 100% of the money paid online for renewals while the county clerks only get a small percentage from "in person" renewals. therefore, increased online renewals means less money for county clerks and more money for the state.

making more money at the expense saftey is the primary lesson i'm learning from NYS on this one.

No wonder people are running into and killing motorcyclists at a ridiculous rate! Its bad enough that the vision test has turned into a 2 x 3 foot board with letters 6 inches high, instead of the binocular looking thing we had to look into before. I don't get it, New York aka The Babysitter State, can make you jump through hoops for ANYTHING else, but doesn't care if you can see to drive!!!
