This is not a new problem. Our government has been sweeping hiv/aids under the rug for years. The know curricular that preaches abstinence has been a joke.
I live in the state of Washington. I've been a HIV/AIDS Educator since Nov. 1995. I personally have witnessed the difference. Of learning from a book and having a person living/suffering with the virus come and present his/her personal story. The impact has made a huge difference in many life's. I know this as am 1 off the many HIV/AIDS EDUCATORS in Washington that is more than willing to put our face to this virus. Since I've been living now for 29 years with this health problem. I've taken a negative and turned it into a positive. Dedicated my live to working with school, businesses' and whom ever in the prevention of this quiet and scary epidemic. As I say. HIV/AIDS has no tell tale sign, and as long as you belong to the human race you are at risk.

Thank you.

Robert I agree with you s thousand percent. I receive a lot of material from CDC on HIV/AIDS and find the there is very poor representation of what progress there has been. The truth of th matter is that there is prevention called "human intervention" in the spread of the disease. I too have focused on EPI as a graduate and doctoral student and read a lot in Africa's war on AIDs and the education and prevention efforts that have been in existence.

More has to be done to present the real progress and dangers of this deadly disease as well as the success and the prevention and education methods that have been successful. My literary experience has been that home outreach and community focus is probably one of the best besides the ability to introduce prevention methods and practical techniques to students starting in the 5th grade or earlier.
