My dream of spending time at all the great wonders of the world is changed forever. I'm scared to hang out in most European or asian countries.
No worries. Just sew a maple leaf onto your clothing and practice saying, "Beauty cathedral, eh?" Learn to recognize "O, Canada" when you hear it and brag to anyone and everyone near you about your wonderful national healthcare system. You'll be in like Flynn.

I think most of posters here are missing the point. The problems Americans are facing have little to do with the Boomer v. Gen X/Y mentalities. The problems are global - economic and political, and not easily addressed. We all retire someday. We all need security when that time comes. So the question is, how will people cope with the changing times? Will they be ready to retire? More than ever, people need to plan ahead and look out for themselves.
There is nothing difficult to understand about the global economy started by the business elite and being promoted by the American politicians who are being paid off to see that it moves forward. All at the expense of the American middle class. No amount of planning ahead can cope with an unfair and unlevel playing field. I would hardly feel a patriot having left my country and taking potshots from a far.

Yeah, this is going to get interesting in the next few years. The Baby Boomers, the most self-righteous, self-indulgent, self-important generation ever, has been living for decades feeling they were "entitled" to SUVs, grande lattes, and 4-bedroom houses in the 'burbs. They going to be shocked when the cold slap of reality proves they are unprepared, their houses are losing value (due to the housing bubble and higher property taxes), and younger generations remember working with those jerks in the workplace.
Well aren't we bitter? I would bet that you Xers didn't mind all the goodies those greedy baby boom parents provided for you. Your generation has self indulgent types the same as mine and every other one. You may think we are all 'jerks' in the workplace but guess what my generation thinks of yours in the workplace? Lazy, can not read and write at a jr. high level and are a bunch of crybabies So growup. And if you are female you have had many more opportunites than those women my age. We fought the battles for you.

Actually, I was given nothing. I've earned everything I've gotten 2-3x over, thanks to the Baby Boomers who thought they were generous if I had bread and water to make it another day. Their actions and beliefs will not be forgotten. As for your "watch your back" comment, is that a threat? I, like many Gen X/Y, am tired of the Boomer condescension and veiled threats. I have a Boomer boss and get it every day at work. Let's see how the Boomers fare in retirement. They'll get the same sympathy and rude attitude that they've been giving their whole lives.
X-Listen up. He meant, watch your back with any vicious little savages you might beget and set loose upon society.
