Goldstein wasn't being a "greed a s s bas-tard", he decided to "move forward". Isn't this what that mayor preach to all of you that believe his every lying word, Carson is "moving forward".

The goal of Goldstein is to profit as this is what business men do. He came into this project with the city telling him he could develop this land in the future.

Now, my tax dollars are being spent on these lazy adults claiming disability, just let me stay in my mobile home, our city away from the main city and our children who we can't stand, so we don't have to go to an old folks home, complacent, don't know a opportunity to improve their live if he slapped them in the face white folks.

Carson main residents are sick and tired of these few white folks who think they are entitled to have the city council continue to fight a LOSING BATTLE for them and it is costing us citizens who pay for our home and DIRT millions in this lawsuit.

To add insult to injury, these were the fools who helped pushed a utility tax with their phone calls to residents with lies, while they are exempt. The main lie was we need this money to balance the budget or the city will be in debt and if it continues the city would be bankrupt. WELL GUESS WHAT ....because of the $15,000.00 PAID TO THE LOBBIST FROM THE CITY'S RESERVE FUND; WE DO NOT HAVE A BALANCE BUDGET EVEN WITH MEASURE C MONEY AND WE ARE CONTINUING THE SAME HABIT OF USING THIS FUND TO BALANCE THE BUDGET AND WITH THIS HABIT AND THE MONEY THAT HAS TO BE PAID IN THE LAWSUIT.....WE WILL BE A BANKRUPT CITY.

I DON'T FEEL SORRY FOR THESE PEOPLE, THEY ARE BRINGING THE WHOLE CITY DOWN.

I totally agree. The city of Carson politician knew in the beginning they would be fighting a losing battle. Dear, Wilson, Raber and Williams used these people for votes by giving them false hope.

And Wynder should be fired knowing that, "In a similar case in Palm Springs, the city agreed to pay Goldstein $937,500 to settle a damages claim." Wynder knew this information going in. I bet if it were his own dollars he would have advised differently and not fought this battle. Giving people false hope on tax payers dollars. Now we have to pay, "Goldstein's attorneys are now seeking $150 million in damages from the city due to the delay." Now that Dear is re-elected and he got stupid Julie "The City Council has voted to seek a settlement".

I am pretty sure that these mobilehome citizens are American flag wavers. Wasn't our system built on "FREE ENTERPRISE"? Why are they denying this man his rights? I don't see these mobilehome owners going after the gas stations, pharmacies, and the grocery stores on their increase of prices.

The majority of people who live in mobile home parks are retirees, single parent families, and the working poor. They cannot afford to buy their spaces. Therefore most will lose the homes they own. The others who can still rent the land under their homes will see incredible rent increases they cannot afford. I'm sure many will also lose their homes because they won't be able to sell them once the rent increases. The owners of our park in Torrance raise our rents every year. We would like to move but it is hard to sell your home when the rent is more that the house payment. Our park owners collect more than $3 million a year in rent. We are simply a cash cow for them. Goldstein wants the condo conversion to end the rent control. That's where he is going to make his money. The elderly and the poor will be forced from their homes. It's been happening in our park for the past ten years. I applaud the city of Carson for at least trying to save the homes of these people. More than I can say for the city of Torrance.

Folks, everyone needs to slow down and realize that living in California is not a right and it's an EXPENSIVE proposition! You can't live in California (save for Thermal, the Coachella Valley/Imperial Valley, and similar areas-read DESERT!) for under $1,000.00 a month!

These folks need to relaize that there are many great cities and states in America that are FAR less expensive to live in (Oklahome City, suburbs of Denver, Nashville, Arkansas, New Mexico, etc.) that one can easily sustain themselves on lower incomes.

But alas, reality and common sense do not exist here. Folks feel they are given unalienable rigths to live in epxensive metropolitan areas regardless of their income and others should pay.

Good for Goldstein. Shame on the City of Carson.

Death Knoll for Seniors?
I can hear the sounds of elder abuse echoing throughout Colony Cove (Senior) Mobile Home Estates in Carson even now. The sounds are the blaring sirens of the ambulances that converge on the park every time James Goldstein drives another nail in the coffins of the hapless and helpless senior citizens that make up the majority of the residents here.
Surely, this is elder abuse of a most insidious nature.
While I understand there may be financial help for some of the truly disadvantaged among us who are not in a position to abandon ship as Goldstein’s money-making schemes descend upon us, it will not help those of us still working, struggling to make the rent (which will triple from rent-control levels) and pay the mortgages on our mobile homes. And it will certainly not help assuage the terror the seniors are feeling, having their lives so totally disrupted by this truly uncaring individual perpetrating this truly unconscionable act.
And what will Goldstein do with this windfall? Will he earmark it to benefit humanity, solve global warming or even adopt a pet? No, he will use it to feather his empire, finance his courtside seats at the Lakers games and his trips to Europe to soak up the fashion scene (to no avail, I might add). Trust me, Mr. Goldstein, that obnoxious cowboy hat, bolo tie and stringy hair you sport courtside makes you look like a caricature of Ebenezer Scrooge, not a fashion plate.
If all this sounds like the ramblings of senility, please, give me a break. I am, after all, one of the abused seniors here in Colony Cove (Senior) Mobile Home Estates, where we once thought we were going to live happily ever after, until death. And despite these seemingly unsolvable problems, I want to applaud the efforts of the City of Carson on our behalf and the Daily Breeze’s Gene Maddaus for following this story.

Oh well, move!

You are free, you don't have to stay anywhere where you are being abused. This is your choice.

Move to greener pastures....your fantasy world. Get a grip of reality, the world is going through trying times right now and your excuse is one of trillions. Go to the back of the line.

Never in my life have I run into a meaner, more heartless group of people. I may well move, but my concern is for the people in their 70's and 80's who may have no one to help them. Would you set them adrift on an ice floe and let nature take its course? I have not been brought up that way. I have been brought up to have compassion for my fellow man.

BTW, Oh Well, do you also pluck the wings off of flies?

The higher the space rent the lower the value of the mobilehome. As the cost of space rent rise to $1100 per month, the mobile home cannot be resold. Over $1500 per month mobilehome owners will abandon their home and the park owner will acquire the house. Then the park owners can and will sell the mobilehome to a new owner $50,000 with new lower rent of $700. Then the circle of unfair and unethical practice is repeated , this happens forever.
Park owners increase the rent on each sale/transfer up to 10%. It causes the rent to rise up to 259% for the 10th resale. In addition to increasing rent on the sale of the mobile home, the park owners increase rent annually by 5%. This annual increase is more benefit than lending a mortgage loan at 5%, 30 years fixed, because park owners do not lend a penny for this similar loan. And it is 30 years because the mobile home owners will abandon their home sooner or later. After 30 year, the rent will rise up 432%. This evil scam can be recognized by comparing the increase on space rent to the increase in minimum payment by government or an employee salary increased based on inflation, or the price of the house increased and decreased in the market.
By restricting sublease (798.23.5) and exempting on rent control (798.17) the California Mobilehome Residency Law 2009 kills the property right of the homeowners. This allows for the park owners to steal the value and in other words to rob mobile homes from innocent people. The law makers mistakenly treat the mobilehome owners as tenants who have no property, basically the same as if they were renting an apartment.
To run away from any potential punishment for this evil scam, park owners sell their park and this requires evictions to all of the mobilehome tenants, disregard the Detrimental Reliance/Estoppel doctrine.
It is the injustice that American cannot tolerate.

It seems like the City Fathers of Carson like this type of housing ... so why doesn't the city open up a mobile home park? The old dump site along the 405 a perfect location instead of a football stadium or mall like always proposed.

Have the city move these old coaches to the new mobile home park, subsidize the rents or even sell the land for a low cost ($500-$600).

A "WIN-WIN" situation for ALL - the trailer owners, the City Fathers, and the previous park owners so they can do what they want with their property.
