"Meanwhile, SMART wants to expand its staff from 10 to 14 next fiscal year by adding a grants coordinator, a clerk of the board, an executive assistant and an administrative assistant."

Ditto. SMART is STUPID. This is EXACTLY what is going to happen with Marin Clean Energy/Marin Energy Authority/Shell Oil scam. They are gonna come crawling to TAXPAYERS for more money. I got news for you, Greenies. We TAXPAYERS have had enough of you.

STOP SMART. STOP MEA. Vote out or RECALL the incumbent politicians, particularly Susan Adams and Charles McGlashan, who pushed these Ponzi schemes down our throats.

Invest the gathered funds like they did with CalPers! Or AIG. Or Madoff. Or derivatives. Or Goldman.

Doesn't anyone trust anybody anymore to safely invest their funds?

Who do you TRUST???

STFU about Left, Right, Greenies, Incumbents or anybody else in politics! This is all BS rhetoric based on some other ficticious people being more reliable. NOBODY is reliable!

They are ALL stupid and incompetent! Or crooks!

Who do you TRUST?

How do repeal this thing? This is going to be a huge money suck that will NEVER pay for itself. All for a train that less than 100 people a day will ride on. Look at Caltrain, and they actually have people that ride it!!!

close the budget gap----hire all illegals. does this moron really think she's going to make up the shortfall over 20 years? what are the odds of not having at least one more recession over that time frame? oh well, they'll propose a loan consolidation plan with mea/mce and plaster one big jumbo loan on marin taxpayers.

You have heard of the ship of fools?
Well this is the train of idiots
And quicky becoming a train wreck

"Thirteen percent sounds like a lot, but it is not," said Erin McGrath, chief financial officer for SMART. "It's a blip over a 20-year period. It's a big 20-year picture."

She assumes the drop off in revenue is a one year aberation
We are in a recession/depression
We have been for several years
If you don't believe that then stop listening to the Wall Street shills and talking heads on MSM
The Fed policy of zero interest to bail out Wall Street has eroded peoples incomes and spending ability
Businesses are closing up and leaving particularly high sales tax places like car dealerships
These are not coming back

So they get loans via Bonds--to be repaid via the sales tax. But who guarentees the repayment should revenue fall short? Hold on to your wallet.

This is a buracrausy that needs to feed itself.

Train to nowhere will never be completed by 2014. NEVER will it make it to Larkspur. Never will this project be successful in carrying huge amount of riders. This is a total ponzi scheme by our stupidvisors that was shov down upon us.

The SMART thing to do folks here is to vote every incumbent out of their office. I don;t care who they are, they have ruined the entire system from local, to county, to state and to federal govt levels. VOTE all of them out and show them we are sick and tired of your ponzi schemes and pet projects.

They have no money to build the train, and they want to add 4 more employees (their own pets) on tax payers expense. This is highway robbery.

How do we stop this nonsense! Hiring more staff and acting like the revenue shortfall is a "blip" is INSANE! All their assumptions are flawed, as the future years were calculated off the first year. If there's a 13% shortfall this year, the gap will be worse next year and the year after, etc. We've seen several articles that talk about the expenses being higher than planned, and those overages will only continue to get worse. How much more money needs to be thrown down this rat-hole before we say NO MORE??

I will pay any tax they want for this great train. Yes i would vote for a 5 % increase for twenty more years so they can catch up and have their funds. This train is going to be special for all Marin and Sonoma. PLEASE VOTE MORE TAXES TO HELP THEM OUT !!!!

If I had been elected, to the Novato city council I was going to get my buddies to donate time and material to rebuild the train station in Novato. But I lost so I will not help.

You're kidding? I'd like to see the train, but it's getting to be too expensive and will mire us in debt.

LOOK AT GREECE AND WAKE UP!!! THE AGE OF GOVERNMENT OVERSPENDING IS OVER!!!

We need to vote in a law that SMART cannot do any deficit spending. NONE! You spend cash on hand from last year's receipts, not MY FUTURE EARNINGS, as government likes to spend.
FYI: Wait until you seen the bill for "Unfunded public employee retirement funds". San Rafael is $200 million in the hole.
