Well there it was in the paper,a Smith County Fair coming. Hmm the fair last time brought in how much money oh yeah minus what was it. So now our Mayor along with the commissioners especially the one who constantly goes to the papers with partial information and 1/2 lies have spent how many millions of our tax payers dollars to build this and that just to bring in a County Fair so that they can ride in a float in a parade and feel impotent - HAHAHA and which will bring in how much money and problems???
Why don't the commissioners and County Mayor post in the paper the final total cost of say one of their projects like for example the Horse Arena and how much money it has generated since it has been completed. Especially the one commissioner that tries to bring the whole Bull**** oh sorry truth to his constituents, Or is it because it hasn't generated enough money to pay for the lighting ????

My thoughts are that if the County Fair is just getting started, it might not be a money maker for anyone for a few years. It might be just like any new business - you have to be willing to lose money for the first few years. Then once established, it goes OK. Why can't we see the County Fair as a fun, clean family thing for all ages to be able to participate in and enjoy?
Where I came from the County Fair was the biggest event of the year. Everyone planned, helped and couln't wait for it to get here. Then we all had tons of fun and it was a Big Money Maker for the community. Hope our goes and keeps going year after year. I want to help make it good.

Hollie I would tend to agree with you if there weren't other non profit or money loss projects being built.
Big money maker Hmm after the wear and tear and cost for everything involved how much is BIG MONEY MAKER?
100 K or 200 K or is it even 500 K. Now that would be big money being that a County Has budgets in the millions.
Or is it like the Motorcycle wheel tax? Lets generate what a max of 5 k to pay our couple of million dollars of debt.
Lets instead have the undeveloped land owners pay 10 cents an acre instead of the .05 cent or less an acre in property tax to help pay our debt and offset our cost for a family fun time, County Fair.

The fair was a great success for 2008.After all the bills were paid and everything accounted for we profitted over $30,000.00 whitch will be used for the 2009 fair since the economy is so bad we wont have to bug businesses for sponsorship. the 2009 smith county fair will be bigger and better than 2008 with more rides , an extra night, better lighting, new events and much much more. check out the new smith county fair website at www.smithcountyfairtn.com

thank you for your time and attention

Wow that's amazing 30K WOW - considering the County just developed that property what cost could they possibly have. Hmm I wonder who really made out on this, can't be the tax payers cause they paid to get in as well as the vendors etc.- hmm is someone making money on this event.
Well you know what might also be nice is if that money went to some helpful projects like developing and maintaining the industrial park to attract business's to ensure the regular tax payers have jobs to be able to afford to go to the fair. Oh yeah that's what we have the chamber of commerce for. What is it they do again besides spend taxpayers money?
Or wait maybe we can start another building project and call it something which is actually something else when finished.
yep the fair was a success --- but for who ?

the fair was a success for the fact that there was many many people saying that it wud be a disaster, and since there hasnt been a fair in smith county in 20yrs. as for the money as i said before the money will go back toward the fair so it wont cost other businesses to advertise this year since money is so tight. all of the money to build the ag center was government grant and is not connected to the fair. thats why its not called smith county fairgrounds.so as for anybody making out on this nobody did. because the fair will lose that money this year for expenses and advertising. as for the money going toward other projects-may i remind you this is not county money. this is all fair money. no money was used from the county and didnt cost the taxpayers anything. people have a choice to go to the county fair. jus like anywhere else.

What are you trying to get us to believe?
You said " the money will go back toward the fair so it wont cost other businesses to advertise this year since money is so tight."

You make yourself out to be knowledgeable on this topic so what you just said is:

1 - Last year unknown business's paid for the Fairs Advertising.
2 - This year the County will pick up the bill for advertising for these business's.
So last year the advertising budget for the Smith County Fair was paid for by local business's and not the County.

You said : " all of the money to build the ag center was government grant and is not connected to the fair "
1- Have you been inside and seen there are at least 2 rooms paid for by banks not Government Grants.
2. Grants require either a amount of matching funds be used by the person applying or the reimbursement or repayment of the grant. There is nothing for free,

You said: " thats why its not called smith county fairgrounds.so as for anybody making out on this nobody did "
1- It's the Ag center, Horse Arena, Crump Paris,
Soccer field, Boat Ramp, Walking Track, kida playground.
2- Regardless of the name it is paid for and maintained by tax payers dollars not private enterprise.
3- If nobody made out that includes the County then why are we doing it during these financially troubled times.
4 - Which and/or what business are the taxpayers going to advertise this year?
5- Simone had to make money cause there are bills.
6- Was the staff or anyone working the fair paid?
7- Are the board members paid or are they donating their time?

you Said: "as for the money going toward other projects-may i remind you this is not county money. this is all fair money. no money was used from the county and didnt cost the taxpayers anything. people have a choice to go to the county fair. jus like anywhere else"
1- Who or what is the fair?
2- Is it a non profit organization?
3- If it is a separate entity and not affiliated with the County then why are there a tremendous amount of County Employee's on the board and working the fair.
4- Did these County employees receive salaries?
5 - Were they being paid either by the County or this so called private enterprise?
6- If it is not affiliated with the County then how much was paid as rent to the county and how much was reimbursed to the County for use of County Employee's.
7- I was led to believe that the insurance coverage for the event was paid for by the County, if so then was it reimbursed?

I think it's great to have fun and a place for the family's of Smith County to go to but not be a burden on taxpayers as this whole thing is.

Why don't you post the expenses and distribution of monies, or at least the location of records so that citizens can come and get the facts for themselves. You don't want to see that do you?

yes businesses paid for the advertising.
jus like businesses do on tv and radio commercials and newspapers.
i did not say that the county would pay for the advertising.
the money left over from last year along with the money given by businesses that want to advertise this year.
the match for the grants were paid by the 2 banks and the carson maxwell family even give $20,000.00 to put their name on the back side of the building where the covered arena is.and also any non-county event that is held at the ag center gets charged rent.
as for the county making money there was an abundance of extra tax dollars brought in the week of the fair.
as for the bills i said after the bills were paid the fair still clearded $30,000.00
the financial records are available for public view at the county mayor michael nesbitts office.
none of the fairboard members are paid.
all fairboard member time is donated.
the smith county fair has its own checking account and is not county funded.
trust me we are getting all our advice from the wilson coutny fairboard. whitch has the biggest most succesful county fair in the state. so i think they know what they are doing.
as for the county employees being on the board its because they want to be on the board. anyone that wants to be on the board and wants to donate their time can be.
as for county employees working at the agcenter. it is county property and they work whereever they are assigned to. it doesnt matter what they are doing as long as they are working on county property. jus like many other businesses.

and as i said before all the fair records along with any of the county financial records are available at smith county mayors office at the turner building.

So the Ag Center building was actually paid for by grant and donation and not taxpayers money.
That would be note worthy.
Abundance of tax dollars. Yes but were they enough to pay the salaries of the people working the fair.
Not County funded yet everything is at the County Office. So if everything is at the County Office then it is a County run and sponsored event.
You said:
"as i said before all the fair records along with any of the county financial records are available at smith county mayors office at the turner building."

If the fair is not County run then why are the records at the County Offices?

Because there is not a fair office yet. wilson county and other counties have an actual fair office. and until then. they are safely stored at the county mayors office. so they will be easy to find and accessible to the public. its a convinence issue realy.

Why is it I don't believe you. There have been so many lies and mis direction.
I think the County would be better served trying to build up the Industrial Parks and bring more Jobs into the County rather than spend money trying to take more money from the taxpayers.
We have a ridiculously high school tax, unbelievable wheel tax for cars and motorcycles.
This County is definitely feeding off the many to let the few play for less. Why not change the tax structure for undeveloped land. Double no heck triple the tax rate for undeveloped land. Let these people pay for the County services.
