Just change the Trolley Route to save money on future lawsuit. Don't fix the fcking road so that it can't happen to everybody else. Sevier County, STUCK ON STUPID since 1863 and counting!
GATLINBURG — The city has changed up its trolley route going along Glades Road and Buckhorn Drive after an accident in which a trolley carrying passengers rolled off an embankment and onto its side.
The driver told city officials he had been driving down Buckhorn Road (which connects Highway 321 to Birds Creek Road) over the Labor Day holiday when he saw a car in the oncoming traffic lane cross into his lane. When the trolley driver tried to pull into the shoulder to give the other driver more room, the gravel on the embankment collapsed and the trolley rolled onto its side.
The drive was not injured, but the trolley was reportedly carrying two passengers who were taken to LeConte Medical Center for treatment, city spokesman Jim Davis said Friday.
Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the wreck, but Davis said the city has not received a copy of the report. The patrolman investigating the incident did not return a call from The Mountain Press. Troopers typically have several days to complete reports about nonfatal wrecks, meaning it’s possible the paper work is incomplete.
The damage to the trolley, which was a 2004 model, was still being evaluated as of Friday, Davis said.
In the meantime, however, the city has reversed the route of the trolley that travels through the Glades arts and crafts community, meaning it no longer uses the same side of the road where the shoulder collapsed.
“They think it will be safer,” Davis said.
