They don't want to face the economic reality. At some point they have to commit to keeping control over their spending. I'm under the distinct impression that they don't even know how much they're spending and just making wild guesses with their budget. Or they do know and don't want to admit it.

City government just wants to squeeze us for more money and doesn't really have an interest in doing anything but exactly what's been working so well for them all these years.

It supposed to be based on water usage, however, if you are conservative by choice, or by lack of cash, and try to limit your usage, you are punished.
The water is calculated every 3 months, so there is 1 minimum payment every 3 months. Sewage is monthly, so you hit with 3 minimum payments for the same water, that's 300% of your water bill.

These assclowns didn't just walk into office, they were VOTED in by the other assclowns in Portsmouth.

It's small wonder that no one who COULD do a good job in the offices want to RUN, because the first thing the small minded assclowns in Portsmouth do is start smear campaigns against the individual, his family, and anyone even remotely associated with them.

People get the reprsentation they deserve. Most of the people in this town are idiots and they elect their idiot peers.

It's no wonder more and more people are voting with their feet and moving to the county, where residents choose and pay for their own sanitation company of choice. If you don't like the performance of one company, you can choose from several available. In my township, our streets are treated and plowed when snow falls and they are paved on a rotating schedule. We have zoning, a good sewer system, good water, and high-rated schools. Why anyone still lives in Portsmouth is a mystery to me.

Take, take, take. It's all they know. A third of them can't manage their household income let alone a fiscal city budget. Anyone qualified wouldn't consider a run for city government, it's not worth the trouble. The lady mayor wasn't perfect but she was sincere, and you see what that got her. They play the voters like a violin. Clay was right when he said "Most Portsmouth residents aren't smart enough to wind an alarm clock". You recalled your only chance at real change. Now you reap what you sow. Wallow in it. It was your vote that put you where you are.

It's my understanding no one voted for the current Mayor...

Why wasn't "the lady mayor" smart enough to know she could not spend money on refurbishing her office without the necessary paperwork, I. E., a purchase order and whatever else is required by law? Auditors issue findings for lack of legally required procedures within goverent entities. You cannot even buy a box of paperclips without a signed purchase order. Making potentially slanderous statements was another baffling action. Why create another opportunity for a lawsuit? As an unbiased observer, I felt she acted and spoke precipitously to her own detriment.

Are you not aware that the city charter states that if a mayor is recalled or resigns, that the President of Council becomes the mayor untill the next regular election?

Jane Murray was recalled in record time by the voters. David Malone happened to be President of council at that time, being elected to that position by the other council members, also according to the charter.

Read the charter. It's not rocket science, and it doesn't change if the persons involved are not your personal favorites.

I also heard David Malone was only the head of the city council because he was appointed to the position shortly before Mayor Jane was recalled...

I'm curious if anyone knows how the Council will conduct it's search for a city manager? I hear Portsmouth has had this type of government before.

Doesn't matter if he was voted President of council shortly before the recall. The position is rotated among council members, and that's the time frame of the recall.

Yes, Portsmouth had the Manager form of government for many years, and it worked well, because it made sure that the person heading the City was an educated professional with management experience...not just a local yokel. He could make the hard decisions based on what needed to be done instead of getting his chain pulled by home town good ol boys. The City advertised the position, Council intervied prospective applicants and then hired. As said before, it's not rocket science.

You seem to HEAR a lot but know LITTLE.

Yo, Know it all..........the first step to becoming a CAVER.
You must have wrote the book how to win friends and influence people and or you need to lift yourself up by putting others down or both.
It's rocket science if it's a professional and competent person they want in there, and guess what, they will not get one of those when applicants do their research on this place, they will cancel their interview. Unless they are a Bob Huff, a yes man, etc. Bet they hire locally.
Did you always use the term yokel, where did you learnt that?
What does "intervied" mean?
You seem to think you know a lot but hear nutin'
Check your notes did they adopt their rotating president or was that just a consideration during the City Manager debate, and or will do it in 2014 when the city manager form of government takes effect. Check with your staff and confirm that unless you want us just to believe all you pontificate. It's all like this..........
Your first two sentences contradict one another. Huh? We will not explain it to you cause you obviously know it all and are just lieing to us? Oh, the first 3 sentences are haywired........
We hope you regroup and come back to us, you can come as another name but your post here is in concrete until the end of time, sorry for your bad luck.
Thank you for sharing anyway..........

They wont let anyone else in, its been this way for 30 years. Only reason the recalled Murray and let in Malone is to avoid Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson to revolt and play the race card! Now their against Malone. So thats why this town will never go any where.

My sources are biased, and I often don't get the whole story.

Here, there are all sorts of theories and back stories. I get interesting pieces to the puzzle, which I enjoy.

Thanks for contributing.

Your comment about them being voted in makes you the assclown. Now there is a vote, but they are corrupt and put people in place to do what they want, if the people don't comply you are sent packing. Mr.Haas was made a council member when Mr.Bauman was sent packing by the people in his ward for not doing anything when we, yes I said we were flooded with raw sewage that has decreased my homes value under the Ohio home disclosure law. When the empty council seat was filled Mr. Haas came family in tow for pictures, not to mention the fact half of the Portsmouth P.D. was at the door of the council room when he was announced as the new council member. Mike Moran acted like he didn't know him and was a very poor actor. Portsmouth hand picked Haas and the residents of that ward had mo say so in it.

The majority of residents of his ward elected Haas the following election. Got a conspiracy for that? lol

The key fact to these "they were voted in" people is that after they are appointed, by the gang, SOGP, or whatever label, you put on the crooks and insurgents, when they come up for re-election, they run unopposed, no body, no body runs against them.
Murray ran, and you see what happened to her. Also, Strawmen like Leedom, Doyle, Nichol's, combined with the Mollette's who lost the last time by a landslide and let Basham win in Ward 3. And Noel, who just quit in Ward 6. Quitter's never win and winners never quit. PP CAVER's are all fluff but praise themselves and gossip about people, moaning and groan over ancient history and they do not make any changes. The lists are long. They continue to bring up the ancient past instead of all the smoking guns they have like the 2010 Audit and Management letter, and the Gammp-gate with the SOGP, the firing of Bob Huff, and the Civil Service dysfunctioning. Don't you just love it, Leedom saids to wait on the fed's, isn't he a cutie, with his Highway 101 speech at Candidates night in 2007? And much more, but not enough good people step forward. The "beg to question" is, Is there any good people? Hah.........Then from some comments on the PDT"s pages there's the IQ line, 3rd St.
The City and the County are like that, and if there's opposition, it's for show or a renegade who losses anyway cause the silent majority has died or moved out. It's the Silent Dead or Silent Absentee's. The last you'll see of the silent majority was the voting down of the Marting's building twice, but no more, no longer unless the PP CAVER's and other's get their heads out of where the sun don't shine.
The two political parties have divvied up the two governments, one has the city and one has the county. HELLO.....
In addition to that this is why the PP CAVE people must be outed for they claim to be the Watchdawgs and change agents but they are in bed with the Status Quo, the insurgents, etc. With the PP CAVE people as enemies, the incumbents need no Friends. Get it?
And mixed in all the Messerly and the PDT's is the lead bird dawg.
Pssst...

You're not paranoid if they're really after you.
