Suspension? sure. summer school? why not. But prison? I think not. The kid something really stupid. But I doubt he intended to hurt anyone. I remember someone dropping an m-80 in a toilet when I went to school. Kids just do stupid things sometimes.

Prison? For 7 years? For tossing a bunch of firecrackers in the cafeteria? Back in more sane times, this kid would have been a kind of hero to the rest of the future blue collar workers bored out of their gourds w/school!(And I, a white collar daughter would have fallen in love w/him!) Back then, he - along w/several of his bored friends would have learned the true meaning of boredom in summer school- where they would continue to amuse each other - and then they would graduate and get boring jobs and remember their glory days throwing firecrackers in the cafeteria. I went on to marry a white collar guy - or two. Now they go to jail?!! For 7 years?!! It's outrageous. No wonder Columbine occurred.

I knew the kid when I went to school, graduated with his sister. Sure it was dangerous and stupid thing to do, he already messed up his future, but 7 years is pretty extreme. No one got hurt and I am sure he wasn't attempting to hurt anyone. Kids bring guns and knives and drugs into school all the time. Community service would be better for him than jail.

Look i know Danny Berger, he never threw the fire crackers at people i love danny to death and ive known him since 8th grade. Yea he messed up but he shouldnt of been arrested and having a 10,000 dollar fine or 7 years in jail. I really hope everything goes up for him because he has a future.

so your saying that he deserves 7 years in jail for FIRECRACKERS. His future is going down the drain. People make mistakes, you'll realize that once you do something wrong and regret it afterward.

I am a Ballston Spa graduate. If you are student posting on here about how nice he was and how stupid of a decision it was for him not to receive the most severe punishment possible you do not understand the real world.

When I was in school most of the most heinous acts ever committed on school grounds were done and there are a reason for these rules. The crowd of students who he threw the firecracker into could have been hit or he could have missed the area he chose and hit someone with it.

I hope that they punish him for what he did today. Due to this the police had to respond and the school was thrown into disarray. Actions deserve consequences and if you wish to respect him as a hero for his actions do such, you have every right, but realize he did break the law.

It's foolishness at it's best. Severe punishment for an ignorant prank. With any luck however, it'll scare some sense into him. For those of you who suggest and advise this severe punishment, understand this is an intelligent young man who made a thoughtless mistake. As everyone does when they are seventeen. I recommend you rethink your opinion of justice. This is America, we're not subject to Saddam's rule.

Maybe if the school's followed through with punishments we wouldn't be here today. There alot of things going on over at the schools that the Admin just turn their head to. What's lunch detention really? Or how about ALA...that's where you get to sleep while being punished. Now that's what I call being punished. If the school district would enforce have of their OWN rules then we wouldn't have this problem.

There appears to be an epidemic of female teachers having sex with young teenaged male students. Has even one of them even lost their tenure - never mind getting threatened w/7 years in jail? This young man was simply responding naturally to the school setting.

Lessons in irresponsibility: If teachers in public schools can hand out fistfuls of condoms to students, play Obama and Al Gore movies on my taxpayer dime, then students ought to be allowed to hurl firecrakers with impunity. In fact, one could logically argue that it's their natural obligation as public school citizens to do so.

This kid should be given his diploma before this semester is out .. and then go straight to the police academy where at least 99% of the students are this kid's soul-mates - partners in crime, if you will. He'd do well as a cop. Instead, the cops arrest one of their own. Disgraceful.
