How many kids could stay with their own parents given the support, services and cash foster families get? That homeless mom staying in contact with her daughter could have used it. Fostering is funded while family support is not. If you can't make money, we'll give your children to other people with services until the kids turn 20 years old.

How much money is spend administering fostering instead of setting up family support services? I think we'll have better outcomes for less money if we can keep more kids with their existing homes. There can be a "perverse financial incentive" for agencies to keep kids in the system rather than keep them with their families. Agencies get funds for each child enrolled. That's not even mentioning cases of abuse in the foster family system.

All kids deserve their families if there is not entrenched maltreatment. Funding fostering, expanding it to age 20 years, without helping families on the edge is ignorant and punitive.
