MLK is an important day to the country. Hoping for a full turn out as we in san juan county are multicultural and this is a way for us to enjoy all of our differences

Look, there is a point where enough is enough. We have a black President - are we ever going to move past the issue of segregation from a hundred years ago? Do we really need "affirmative action" anymore? Why do people insist on being called african-american? Am I eurpoean-american? No, I'm an American. Why aren't they?

What, Presidents day not enough for ya? Honestly, folks like you attempting to polarize all of us into us against you all is damaging.

Who gets to decide when enough is enough? You? Me? Someone else?

Interesting philosophical question. Without that decision being made be someone, somewhere, sometime the end result is complete and total reverse discrimination, which isn't a good goal either.

We don't have a black president. We have a president who is a white guy who just happened to have a black daddy. He was raised white, thinks white, acts white, talks white and IS white in everything but skin tone. Now, if we had a jivin' brother for president, this nation would be in much better shape. Too bad that a REAL black dude has no chance of being elected in this racist nation.

You are quite right. There are so many other very successful nations with black leaders...I just can't think of one, can you?

I guess we are just going to have to treat Darwindog as we did Loudpipe. Call him out on all his ignorant posts and post all the information about him we can find. This is the only way to keep him under control. This is a free forum to post your mind but there has to be a certain amount of decency on our part.

I dont think any of us can afford to view it as a philosophical question just yet. Perhaps we will get there soon but we still have people who refer to Barak Obama as black, although he is also white and they think segregation is an issue of 100 years ago.

MLK, a registered Republican, would be proud to see that people of his color have bastarderdized his hope that "a man be judged by the content of his character and not by the COLOR of his skin."

Every society has some segregation of one kind or another, be it catholic/protestant, gay/straight, black/white/brown/red/yellow, rich/poor, etc...

Focusing on one issue, race, and not letting go of the past and not embracing the changes that have occurred in the present is counter productive.
