As per the City of Ontario website: All potential employees are required to pass a pre- employment physical examination prior to appointment. The City supports a DRUG FREE WORKPLACE. The pre- employment physical includes a drug screen.

So, to be a trash man, a police man, a city hall employee, a secretary, or any other job in the city requires ALL potential employees to pass a medical exam that includes a drug test, but the bosses dont have to even take one?

Hmm... sounds like the upper edge of lunacy to me! I am apalled and as a potential city employee who will be forced to submit bodily fluids for MY job it seems funny that the people that will approve my employment can be sitting at home ripping the bong when they watch Leno without fear of losing their cushy upper-level job... oh, and these same people outlawed marijuana for MEDICAL use.

Incumbants beware, I am going to do my best to bring in fresh, level-headed people who dont contradict themselves at every corner.

As of this week the City of Victorville is requiring background checks on all new and current employees. The cost for these checks have been estimated at $15.00 each! Note that all five of the County Supervisors recently and voluntarily tookdrug tests. Under the new policy, Victorville also incudes as a crime moral turpitude, Could that be why the Council is not interested in background checks. You will usually find that poitical hacks usually are in favor of background checks but only when they know they have the votes to control the outcome! The Ontario Mayor could never be hired in Victorville!

If you have nothing to hide, why should you not take the test?

Sounds like Devereaux and Brown may have something to hide themselves. If the council wants to do it, it is not the job of the City Manager to tell them they cannot. Sounds like Deveraux runs the city and John Brown is his enforcer. I pity the people of Ontario with these guys in control of the council as they have been for years.DRUG AND ALCOHOL TEST EVERYONE who works for the city including council members or they are just being hypocrites.

The story said nothing about background checks, only drug testing. It also said it would be too much of a burden, or something to that effect... the city already has a contract with a health provider that gives each and every employee a drug screen. ALL of their employees (including my wife, who is basically a receptionist) have to submit to the tests, but not the bosses?

Seems a little weird to me.

The city council did not outlaw medical marijuana, they simply said that there could be no dispensaries within the city limits.

So, what they basically said was "Take your dollars to another town", and for a town whose council seems to love to bring in the $, it seems quite strange.

Sick people should not have to travel for their medicine, and people with perscriptions should be allowed to work. When the people passed Prop 215, to allow people access to the medicine that their doctors perscribe to them, I dont think they wanted them to loose their jobs or be unable to find gainful employment. Just an opinion.

Drug test city council members? Maybe just the Detroit mayor...haha!!! It would make more sense to test the people receiving welfare checks! If I have to pass a pee test for employment to earn money to pay taxes, I think the persons who collect welfare and all other types of social service assistance should pass a drug test to get our tax dollars! Is there any kind of laws trying to be passed concerning this issue? I need to know what to vote for if I missed something!

Ah yes, "Chief" Bowman. The guy who has been married more times then I have fingers on my right hand... the guy who got a DUI while driving a city vehicle... a guy who evaded the Upland cops so he could get safley home to Ontario when they pulled him over... the guy who ran for City Council a few years back (and somehow won?) while bragging about his FD endorsements from all the surrounding cities 'except' for the Ontario Firefighters who did not support him...

Yeah "Chief", I'd say your fluids come first!

if the city council does not want to make drug testing for elected officials, i say make a local proposition that will force them to take a drug test when they apply for any form of public office
