I just watched a news cast from earlier today outside of the courthouse in Dallas where that perv faced the judge today. HOW can anyone say they stand by him. He is sick. Being a pastor was his coverup. He thought if everyone looked up to him, no one would see who he really was. People from his church were there to support him. If it were their children in the pictures I bet they wouldn't be defending him. SICK!!!!!!!

I couldn't agree more! I was floored by seeing the supporters on the news also. I don't get this, there is proof that this man was involved in child pornography! What is there to support?

The reason why people support "pastors" that do things like he did is because they have blind devotion to him.

I go to that church, as does my 4 year old. It disgusts me that the associate pastor said "We love him and support him." The simple use of the word "We" indicates (to me at least) that means all of the church. That was a liberty she should not have taken. "We" do not love and support him, his wife and family "We" do. He can be judged by his maker, and at least in my heart, can burn for the things I read in the legal papers. I feel sick to my stomach that my child was within standing distance of a man with such thoughts. I will return to the church as soon as I feel there will be no messages of forgiveness for him. If you want to forgive him that is your business, but I will not let myself or my child put on a "guilt trip" because I believe that forgiveness will not come from me.

I hope he is truly aware of the illness he has and hopefully he will have a long time to think about it.

The same can be said about those who support "Preachers", Ministers", and "Evangelists" who are caught in similar situations.
I mean, let's be fair.

Once there was a woman working as a whore, I believe. Jesus said "He that is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone".
One by one her accusers slunk away, until all that was left was Jesus and this woman.
Jesus said "Woman, where are your accusers?" She said that nobody was left. Jesus said "Neither do I condemn you...go and sin no more".

Why didn't Jesus "accuse her"? Why didn't He cast stones at her, which the Law of Moses told them to do?

This guy posted naked pictures pleasuring himself and described how he likes to roll play with 6-8 year olds and have family orgies and dress up as the mommy on chat sites. His supporters must not know this, do they??? If this guy is forgiven and going to heaven I am not so sure it is for me.

Granted, that's repulsive! It's about as nasty a human behavior as we can stand, especially if we have kids of our own.
But, I wonder if ALL of sin, no matter what it is, is just as repulsive in God's eyes...I'm just thinking out loud here...

I'm not trying to justify his behavior. If this happened at MY home church I'd probably want to lock him up and throw the key away.
But hey, I live in So Cal...I'm distanced from it.
But is there, or can there be, "forgiveness" for this man? From the human side of things, probably not. People will always remember this day. He may have to move his family to Minnesota or somewhere.
But from God's point of view...He sees sin as "sin", he doesn't categorize it into the "filthy five" or the "Dirty Dozen" like we do. He sees all sin as disgusting, and that's what the Cross was for.

Consenting adults committing adultery is alot different than any offense committed against a child. So, in my opinion, I think the forgiveness of such atrocities should be left up to the maker to decide.

As for me supporting him in any manner, NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

As for his family, I have all the sympathy in the world for them. I hope that they can someday find peace, but it wont be anytime soon.

"I think the forgiveness of such atrocities should be left up to the maker to decide."

I was talking about "forgiveness" on two different levels. On the horizontal level; mankind to mankind, this deed will be hard to forgive, especially since kids are involved and all.
But from a vertical level; from Mankind to God, I think the Maker ALREADY decided. He saw these things already happening 2000 years ago, and said "I'm going to have to send My Son to take their place and pay the penalty for that sin, because they won't be able to do it".

Well, clearly I am in no position to know what God will forgive. Only what I can forgive.

But it is all of our duties to raise our children in a manner that they will find these types of actions of perverts as disgusting and atrocious. And to educate our children on the pitfalls of the internet. That there are predators out there and to be wary and use information sources for knowledge only and not obsessions.

Disgusted. I totally agree with you. However, wouldn't our children learn more about God and about forgiveness if we practiced it and shared it with them. I too am disgusted at what happened. And he will never be back in our church or in our community. But he was our minister; we celebrated communion together. Many loved him, of course not knowning about his darker side. But as Christians, can we totally turn our back on him at this hour? If he needs our prayers, and even our forgiveness, should we not be offering it to him? How can we as Christians do otherwise? Hate the deed, not the man. I never want to see him again, but I know that he is hurting really bad. Can we deny him the prayers that he so needs?

The Apostle Paul tells us that we are now to forgive "as WE have been forgiven".

One of the toughest, hardest instructions to follow in the Bible. For sure.
I guess the idea is, when we see our own junk, and realize what God had to do to take it away, maybe that will soften us up a bit toward others when they sin against us.

I have a major problem with how some have reacted to Steve. He did not confess or repent of HIS choice to behave and take advantage of children he just got CAUGHT! He's a creep and those from the Methodist church who are going on television and on message boards "supporting him" should be ashamed. I don't think they would be acting like that if it were their young daughter in those disgusting pictures.

Wake-up people! And another thing, he does not represent the Savior that gave his life for me. Jesus was selfless...Steve was selfish! Just read what he was saying to that undercover cop! Disgusting and twisted and he was doing it from his church office!

Have fun down in Huntsville Steve. They have a special type of justice for those who prey on children in the pen!

When he does come to his senses and repents and changes his life or IF he ever does, then we can discuss forgiveness but not right now! Again, I am referring to man to man forgiveness. God will forgive him if Steve truly desires it.

Please pray for his wife and 3 kids. They are yet another group devestated by his selfish choices.

I am with you CharltonHeston. My prayers and sympathy is with his victims, which include his family. They are victims of this as well. The road they are travelling is nothing anyone should have to travel.

I found myself unable to describe the feelings I had when this all came to light. The beam in my own eye was distracting me. While setting at my breakfast table reading my morning scripture it came to me. God sent Steve to the Methodist Church here because God knew that Steve's sin was going to be revealed and he also knew that we would protect his wife and children. I hate to say it but maybe the preacher before Steve, who left his wife, was a test of our love before God sent Steve here. I think we passed that test and I hope we pass this test also, but I also hope God is through testing the Methodist Church. Please do not distrust this man’s wife, hold her in your hearts and love her even more. As for Steve I, don’t know him right now, I’ll let God do the forgiving because as a man it just ain’t in me at the time
