I agree with the school officials that sent the child home in that the shirt was inappropriate for school.
"LADY GAY GAY" has sexual implications which young children should not be exposed to, especially in our public schools.

...and Lady Ga Ga makes me gag gag. Her support for the offending student confirms it was inappropriate.

okay, first of all. Rebel Flags are OFFENSIVE and inappropriate for ANYONE, certainly "children" and so is cramming s specific religion down their throat! If some children can wear shirts about Jesus, and others representing their opinions and views. so Can This young man. EVEN IF HE WORE MAKE-UP AND HELLS TO SCHOOL! SOOO WHAT!!!!

I'm all for school uniforms to end all prejudice!

There is/was absolutely NOTHING wrong with him wearing a LADY GAY GAY shirt to school or anywhere else.
It's not about "freedom of expression, unless you disagree" There is a double standard and it's VERY ignorant.
Hatred of ANY kind is NEVER acceptable and quite frankly it's STUPID to see adults trying to STOP a child from being themselves.
What kind of person discriminates in 2010?
The child has an AMAZINGLY SUPPORTIVE MOTHER! I wish that for ALL children. Thank GOD for Mom's like that.

I hope this puts a HUGE SPOTLIGHT on this small minded school.*shakes head*
SHAME ON YOU GREENBRIER HIGH SCHOOL!!!!!! SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!!

Your welcome to your opinion and I will refrain from calling it "STUPID" or "ingnorant", it's just a different opinion.
My opinion, and evidently that of the school officials, is that a shirt say "I ♥ LADY GAY GAY" is not a matter of free expression but just an attempt to gain attention. Similar to low-rider pants with underware sticking out.
If it was her true professional name "Lady GaGa" then no issue at all.
Congradulations on the raising of your 3 children. Mine are great also as are my 8 grandchildren.

I went to Greenbrier.(class of 2006) I always got crap from the hicks there. I'm not surprised this happened. This one old hag used to make us pray when she subbed for various classes.

Greenbrier is a smallminded town where small minded people stay forever.

I LOVE JESUS, and SOUTHERN BORN AND BRED! with a great big REBEL FLAG are also a means to get "Attention"
Everyone who wears ANYTHING with something symbolic does so, to bring attention to themselves. It's our own way of saying "this is who/what I support"
Again, Good for anyone who has the guts to be themselves and not oppressed by what some of our close minded Parents and Grandparents fed us as children.
Love is correct.
discrimination is NOT.

My advise to all the teens would be to get the hell out of that town ASAP!!

Many of us fought in wars for your right to say and express whatever you want. Children need guidance from their elders and therefore are not allowed, legally or morally, to do or say whatever they want.

Exactly, Guidance.
NOT taught to dislike other people because they have a different Belief, Viewpoint, religion, etc..

This is where the line is blurred. Our Children are a direct product of us. If we teach them to dislike gay people, if we teach them that gay people are going to "Hell" then that is what they believe.
I would NEVER try and scare my child into believing ANYTHING, and I would NEVER allow my child to discriminate.

When I went to school, we went to school to learn. Not to express ourself. Kids today have WAY too much freedom.

What a load of b.s.! I guess I must be a complete failure, because my children have discipline, respect, and understand that rules are in place for a reason. Deliberate distractions in a school environment should not be accepted, and schools have dress codes for this reason. David, send your son to his school with makeup, high heels, a Gay pride t-shirt and see if he does not get asked to change. Wake up dude.

Cole is a great kid. He's kind, caring, honest and well-raised. The simple fact that he can look at virtually anyone and respect their belief, opinion and sexual orientation speaks volumes. The fact that his mother is so supportive of his lifestyle should be celebrated. The fact that he's not out doing the same things that most of Greenbrier teens are should be congratulated. So what if he wore a shirt a few people didn't like. I'd like to see more students sent home for clothing that shows too much (including sagging pants) and more stores refusing to sell such clothing.
And in case anyone is curious, I have a 13 year old daughter who not only knows Cole but looks supports him as well.

It's a HIGH SCHOOL if they don't know what gay, bisexual, or straight is, they're VERY sheltered. People should be exposed to things.
