Of the 95 counties in Tennessee, can anyone explain why Robertson County has the highest annual "wheel tax" of them all?$85.25!
The majority of the counties are only $24.
Even those with specific city vehicle taxes total less than ours.
I see the wheel tax is now called "City M.V. Privilege Tax."

I agree, it is absolutely ridicules how much we pay. Is there something to do about it? I an sort of new to the area and was wondering if there are ever any town meetings or something like that were these things are discussed?

thanks for the come-back.
I've been here over 20 years and it's always been the highest in the state. At one time the wheel tax was earmarked for road construction/improvements but that would mean we should have the best roads in Tennessee. Hah!
Always figured a bunch of it was going into Bubba's pocket down at city hall.

Yeah, I agree! Or to bump bonuses for the richer ones around here! While there are others who are really struggling. I wouldn't mind paying it if I knew it went to something worth while... But I don't want to pay for someone's night out while others are doing without food for their children. THere have been so many lay offs in springfield. If that money had been being put back for an emergency like this they would be able to really help those families in need

The last increase was unknown to me until I saw the ELECTION results on channel 4's news the night of the vote. I used to pay the $25 extra for a Smoky Mountains vanity plate but now I can only afford to support Robertson County. The Smoky's will have to do without my support.

yep. Just one more thing to consider when picking a place to live. I really can't think of anything special this county has to offer, either to new residents or new business.

This the secong wheel tax increase for the jail fund in 15 years. $20.00 was attached in 1994 or 1995, when Jessee Holamn Jones Hospital moved to NorthCrest Medical Center and the building was leased to Robertson County for $1.00 to allow them a place to move the old jail after remodeling and reconstruction of the old hospital. The promise was to remove this $20.00 in 10 or 12 years. I'm still waiting.

There is only one way to stop this run away on money grabbing.Do not return them to office.
If they are appointed do not return those who apponited them to office. It is that simple.
