I think there needs to be a fair balance. I don't think it should be presented in a way that promotes sex, but one that at least educates kids on what's going on In Case they don't know and aren't being taught.
When I was in 4th grade, there were kids who were having sex, but I was a pretty naive 4th grader, not that I didn't know about sex (my mom was very open with me), but I just wasn't in the crew that would really be interested in that at such a young age. It's important to know, because sometimes the more you're aware of reality, the more real you can accept it to be instead of just thinking sex is Purely about a good time. It's unfortunate that people's childhood is Gone because they have a kid of their own before they were even done being one. It's good to be educated so that if someone does make a decision they don't do it unaware of the possible results, but pushing young people towards a premature sexual awakening can be very dangerous and damaging as well. |

1 Not only straight people enter the world with no knowledge on sex but gay people are also not aware of what support and knowledge of where safe sex information is about. Life skills. Whatever your gender and colour..... |

there is a fine line between innocence and ignorance. If you teach children as mature person, then they will grow up making the right choices. At the end of the day, its about the parents. Its about upbringing. Having role models and good parents to pass on good habits. Being informed and aware of sex doesn't being one losses their innocence. Thats just silly. |

MIDDLE SCHOOL (6-8) is where it should be taught.

My apologies, that should read 6-8 grade.

parents have the responsibility of teaching their kids about sex, but since they spend alot of their time at school and it's starting to happen in elementary schools now it should be taught at school also. every parent doesn't know how or when to talk to their kids about sex and every child doesn't listen to their parents. so yes i believe it should be taught in school

I find it interesting that most people think sex education should be taught at elementary levels. I agree with this because I know that children as young as 1st & second grade start questing about their bodies & comparing male and females..I also agree that parents should take part in teaching, but reality is that don't happen. The part I find interesting is that when it comes to art, anything about the human body and nudity is shunned, but not sex ed!

The important thing to clarify here is that Sex Education is just that: education. It does NOT promote sexual activity, it just explains it, and points out the various repercussions. Learning about something does not automatically result in the person going out and doing it. Following that logic would mean that every child who learned about drugs and drug prevention in school would automatically become a user. |

7 & 8? Well that sounds to me that they are being taught at home!! Mine is 7 and she thinks sex is 2 people just laying naked in bed... just because what she sees on the local channels. But the "s" word is out she knows it exists, so yeah it won't be long. There will be a point and time that I see fit to start the conversation and it will end the day I die. Cause we all learn something new to talk about. So you know this is a double edge sword --- Parents don't care what their children see and hear or teach them better, so theirs might benefit at earlier age.... Then there is parents such as myself than can and will handle it on my time my way. |
