I can't believe how the media is down playing this event. Just making it appear as though it was a mother / son dispute. There are people out there that want to know what happened because it involved so many. My husband and I were almost hit in our car by 2 police cars as they were rushing to the crime scene. One officer was going so fast turning right that it looked like he was going to flip his car. One officer almost was ramming us off the freeway on the off ramp at Central. The female officer was over powered by this individual. The media isn't even reporting the individual was able to get the officer's tazor gun and baton and hit her with it.

Some witnesses said:

"I was there... super unstable guy was shot 3 times... I was 10 feet from the guy when he got shot.. we tried to help the cop but she warned and blasted... women shouldnt be cops... a man could have subdued him but she struggled and was forced to shoot.... maybe food for thought.. he easily took her tazer and baton.. if he would have been able to get her sidearm many civilians would have been in danger... it really could have been deadly for innocent people easily."

"I'm the guy in the white shorts and black shirt talking to the cop..... thats the cops baton and tazer on the ground.... about ten of us were running over to help... she was in trouble.. it was a big guy and he was defintly winning the battle..by the time we got there he was literally beating the officer w her baton. I was 10 feet from the guy when he got shot.... it was insane... he still kept coming after the first... second... and almost the third shot... he looked very menatlly unstable..."

What kind of person are you? The guy she shot has a serious mental illness which he and his family have to deal with every day, and he is loved and adored by his family and friends despite his handicap. Just because one ignorant cop decided to play tough guy and tried to "take him down" rather than calling for medical assistance and back up, you're going to assault him too???? Way to go, "dumb fuck", you're definitely going straight to hell.

Hi Debbie, I'm sorry to hear that your safety on the road was neglected by these officers. It seems there may be a bit of a "Wild West" mentality going around this County at the moment.

I would suggest to you that the Police Department and media are not releasing many details because the actual circumstances may cause the Sheriff Deputy involved to be seen in a much less favorable light.

The Sheriff's Department keeps calling this incident a "Domestic Violence" or "Domestic Disturbance" call. However, that was not the case. Unfortunately, what was occurring in the parking lot was nothing but a loving and care-giving mother dealing with her mentally ill son who was having a psychotic episode. This Deputy was sent to the scene by an uninvolved and uninformed passer-by. Once at the scene, the man's mother told the Deputy that her son was mentally ill and experiencing a schizophrenic episode. Perhaps being psychologically prepared to confront a man beating up a woman led to haste and excess in the Officer's actions in this tragic situation. I can only assume that it is not Riverside County Sheriff Department Policy for a small female officer to address, and then single-handedly attempt to "take down", a large mentally ill male; especially when he is presently not in touch with reality and thinks he's fighting for his life.

With budget cuts being threatened, jobs on the line, and certainly no funds available to implement any kind of education or training for police to deal with mentally ill citizens, I hardly think that politicians want to have to answer to their constituents regarding any type of civil rights violations at the moment. Best for them to make the shooting victim look like a criminal, so the PD looks like a pack of superheroes wiping crime off the streets of Lake Elsinore. This was the THIRD officer involved shooting in the last week, just one more and we'll have a real Riverside County "Fantastic Four". Bravo.

I love that you would never let a man hit a woman, but you have no problem hurling gender specific profanities at one. Hypocrite. You say he didn't have a handicap sign on, but the sentence before you said he was crazy. Hypocrite. Too bad you didn't step in to help him when the cop started her assault which he was only defending himself against. I bet she was thankful, she got a lot of people hurt with her negligent actions that day. I would be more concerned at why she was discharging her firearm when you, your "gas station homie", and a lot of other innocent by-standers were so close, what if she had hit you? Ya, that's what I thought. Take some responsibility for what you did. You didn't jump in and help her to gain control to restrain the guy (her back-up should have done that in the first place if she had followed police procedure), you just fueled the fire by assaulting him with soup cans from a safe distance... like a true coward.

I read what had happened, and I read all these ignorant posts minus the few who understand a situation like this with a mentally ill person. The cop had no right to try to sub due the man in my opinion clearly if the mother had stated that her soon was mentally and had schizophrenia. The police woman should've called for medical assistance or back up to help "take him down" not try to do it her self. A lot you you people need to be educated on people with mental illness the police women would have never been injured if she'd contacted back up or medical services if she had the right thing would have been done and he would have been put in 51/50 instead shot dead.

A weak female cop should not try to stop a man from attacking a weak female! The chick cop believed way to much of that "girl power" crap!
