"Bad choices don't make bad people."
You are right, but...BAD PEOPLE DO MAKE BAD CHOICES! |

To What; quit being a damn douche-bag. no matter what choices people make in life, no one deserves to meet this kind of end. I was never too fond of Brian but may he R.I.P.

Sorry for your loss but have you made an apology to the people that lost their power? The next thing we know is that you will be suing SCE! |

After I read this story I am thinking that these were younger men that were trying to steal the wire, well another article puts them at ages 52 and 48!!! I was reading the comments and they were in the wrong place at the wrong time?

You have got to be kidding me. People lost their electricity for a few minutes. There were two people that lost their lives. Wake up!!!!!! As for the suing thing shut your mouth. |
||||
Did you know these two people? Most likely not so what gives you the right to say that they were bad people. They made a bad decision and paid with their life. I'm taking it that you are just the PERFECT person. So please think before you speak. |

My Dad was one of the two men who died that night. As is often the case, few people know the background to his story -- but like most who turn to this kind of theft, there IS a contextual backdrop of drug-abuse. My Dad had been clean and sober for twelve years, however, and he had a strong work ethic. He was a good Dad, as well, raising three kids and treated my mother and the rest of our family with loyalty and respect. He had a work-related accident in the mid-nineties which left him with a broken back and this required a series of surgeries so that he could even walk again. I was one of the people who took care of him after his injury, so I know how much pain he was in and how there were many nights where he couldn't even sleep. His relapse technically began with vikodin, and over the years, it moved on to stronger pain-killers because the body builds up an immunity. He wasn't a "druggie". He wasn't a "low-life" or a "scumbag". His situation was the result of a string of misfortunes. He was betrayed by an old-friend which lead to a loss of job. He lost 1 acres of property to the bank and his home burned down. He had nothing left but a drug-addicted girlfriend and none of us could help him because he cut everyone off, probably thinking he would regain contact once he got back on his feet. He was very proud, and losing everything he had was no doubt humiliating for him. I never held any of that against him -- and what son would?! He clearly lost hope at some point. He was homeless, living with an injury which required medical attention he could not afford, and with an addiction which arose as a natural course of his once-legal prescriptions. My point is, these things can escalate. Some of the people you see on the street ended up there because they had poor character, lousy work-ethic, and commonly expressed criminal tendencies throughout their lives. My Dad was not like that, and a lot of homeless and drug addicted people are not "bad" people. They need help. They've lost hope. They've capitulated to stresses which most of us are completely insulated from. You soulless sorts who are bitching about your precious electricity going out for a few hours are about the most dishonorable specimens I've ever encountered. And as for "What", I'd really love to see you speak this way face to face. You're talking trash about two individuals you know nothing about, and probably because your life is so meaningless that you have to cruise threads like this just to grant yourself some semblance of existential validity. Every man who dies is someone's son, and this man who died left behind a large family and a whole lot of friends who loved him dearly. Our losses are compounded by such insults, so eternal shame on you.

Can anyone who knows more about this incident write me at deinwilhelm@gmail.com? Our entire family had been out of touch with my Dad. I already know the details of the coroner's report and what the newspapers had to say. I don't know anything about his friend, though, who died that night as well. Any details would be appreciated.

You know what? I realized something I've done in this situation, and I am upset with myself for reaching premature conclusions. I took for truth the details in the media's report on my Father's death, and yet the police and coroner's reports are not even completed yet. There are a lot of missing pieces as matters stand. The alleged theft, as far as I'm concerned, remains unverified. My Father was no saint, but I suspect there may be more to this than has been revealed. Those of you who are laughing and casting judgments on this incident remain ignorant of the details. Additionally, what you're saying is that if this were, indeed, theft -- then the theft of copper wire should be punishable by death. You do realize that this is what you're saying, correct? So, a homeless man gets the death penalty for petty theft of abandoned materials? Ok... And how are your beloved politicians punished for authorizing invasions, occupations, theft of vital natural, and wars which cost millions of lives? They get wealth, fame, and the license to write our history books and influence the minds of innumerable generations with their version of reality. "One law for them, and another law for us." Right? Additionally, rapists, murderers, and all manner of hardened criminals roam comparatively free, but a copper thief (your words, not mine) deserves death by electrocution? Is that how it goes? Help me understand your "logic." Help me understand how you can reach a conclusion on this case before trained professionals in law-enforcement have even officially concluded the case. Show some respect.

We are talking about human lives here. You people who are making these nasty remarks, need to get a life and learn to have some respect for human life. How would you like it if this was your son or daughter? It does not matter what was going on out their in that vacant, open field that night. You people are a messed up in the head, to put that garbage on here for their family to see. |

I use to live by that driving range and wene I first heard of this story I though both people had to be young. I'm no electrician but I know cutting into high power will really fuck you up,my freinds a electrician and he sent me these photos of some guy who got his arm blew off and all kinds of other bidy parts while cutting into a high voltage line. I think the theft of recycable materials in Riverside County is a direct result of the meth epidimect.
