Two Richland 2 Schools Locked Down as a Precaution
#1 Sep 6, 2007
Was this a legitimate "sighting" or a student wanting to disrupt school? I applaud the student - if this is legitimate - for being brave, observant, responsible, and concerned. If not, I hope we do not develop the "Cry Wolf" syndrome because of a stupid, silly prank from a youngster craving attention or whatever. The "Copy Cat" syndrome concerns me too. Sorry to be so negative.

i was at lunch (in ridge view) when this happened, and i had suspected something was wrong because they cut off lunch about 20 minutes early and told us to get to the nearest classroom, but no one would tell us why. The problem i have with that is that were highschoolers you could at least tell us, all they did by not telling us was cause panic

What did the police find? We need an ending to the story.

I think schools need to be alert but this was just another time of over reacting.

Spud, if you lived in Columbia and saw what goes on here, you would understand the extra care taken in handling this. Its a mess here.

Johnny brought a gun to school,
He told his friends that it was cool,
And when he pulled the trigger back,
It shot with a great crack.
Mommy, I was a good girl, I did
what I was told,
I went to school, I got straight As',
I even got the gold!
But Mommy, when I went to school that day,
I never said goodbye,
I'm sorry Mommy, I had to go,
But Mommy, please don't cry.
When Johnny shot the gun,
He hit me and another,
And all because Johnny,
Got the gun from his older brother.
Mommy, please tell Daddy;
That I love him very much,
And please tell my boyfriend;
That it wasn't just a crush.
And tell my dear sweet Grandmother;
I'll be waiting for her now,
And tell my wonderful friends;
That they always were the best,
Mommy, I'm not the first,
I'm no better then the rest.
Mommy, tell my teachers;
I won't show up for class,
And never to forget this,
And please don't let this pass.
Mommy, why'd it have to be me?
No one deserves this,
Mommy, warn the others,
Mommy, I left without a kiss.
And Mommy, tell the doctors;
I know they really did try,
I think I even saw a doctor,
Trying not to cry.
Mommy, I'm slowly dying,
With a bullet in my chest,
But Mommy, please remember,
I'm in heaven with the rest.
Mommy, I ran as fast as I could,
When I heard that crack,
Mommy, listen to me if you would,
I'm not coming back.
I wanted to go to college,
I wanted to try things that were new,
I guess I'm not going with Daddy;
On that trip to the new zoo.
I wanted to get married,
I wanted to have a kid,
I wanted to be an actress,
Mommy, I wanted to live.
But Mommy, I'm must go now,
The time is getting late,
Mommy tell my boyfriend,
I'm sorry, but I had to cancel the date.
I love you Mommy, I always have,
I know; you know it's true,
And Mommy all I wanted to say is,
"Mommy, I love you"

I'm sure the involved schools followed all the reasonable guidelines pertaining to this type of situation. My son attends Rice Creek, and the school, in my opinion, took quick and necessary precautions. For those of you who are so quick to question as to whether or not this was a case of "overreaction", please ask yourself if you would feel the same if your child was in that school. Oh, and if something, God forbid, had happened, would you be the first to opine that school personnel and officials hadn't responded appropiately or quickly enough? My guess is that you would be. It's because of people like you that, on occasion, officials ARE slow to respond and react, for fear of being labeled 'over-precautious' as though there were such a thing. Please get a clue.

I am a senior at Ridge View and they didn't lock the school down at lunch. It was 7th period when it happened. And it was not that a student seen some guy with a gun. It was some guys who broke into some houses and the police seen them try to break into another house and they ran. They closed off the schools because the cops were pushing the guys to the school so they had no where to go. And by the time they got close to the school they turned themselfs in. We let out of school at the same time we do everyday.
