This officer died in the line of duty. Every one had praises for him and all that he has done for his town and community. I wish his sons the best of luck in the world and to the one who just graduated, make your father proud. he will always be with you no matter what.

I really believe that the guys they are trying to acuse at fault of the officers death is innocent. The officer was doing his job they didn't know about his health situation and i really think it is unreasonable cause to charge those guys for that. Look on the other hand if that was the suspect to fall out with an heart attack would the law do anything about the death of someones child, would they have punished that officer. This comment is not being posted to be rude or without sympathy but looking at things on the reversed side. Sometimes the law enforcements have their way of doing wrong things and nothing being said or done to correct them .I just really think its wrong to punish someone for a reason such as this they didn't know he was going to pass out or even die.

My family is praying for you, Sheila. I will always remember our time together as Drill Sergeants. He was a strong man full of wisdom and an excellent example to his sons. No matter what type of conversation we had, he seemed to put you in it. It was an enjoyable time with him. He was a man of honor and respect. I appreciate all that you and Darral have done for me. Whatever he did, he put his best into it. And I am glad that I personally worked with him. You were the stars that shined in his eyes. Everything that he did, he did it for you and his sons. He will truly be missed. Stand strong my sister. I know God will keep you and your sons in perfect peace.

I don't think that it's right to charge Mathew Hooks with that because that's not his faught that the officer had an inlarged heart and the other guy that ran at first to should have tha same charge if the law want to be right that's no more than right.

I so agree with you on this one. With all due respect to the officer and his family. May he rest in peace, but i really think it's unfair to charge these guys for Mr. Lane's death. They should only be charge for their crime. Their crime has nothing to do with Mr. Lane's health conditions. May he rest in peace.

Our prayers are with you, Sheila.

When will people stop running from the police? Nothing good ever comes out of it.

In no way was question/comment was to say that it was useful - I am just curious because when people set up a memorial fund it may go for scholarship or other reasons. The question is valid what is the purpose of the fund.
When people start a memorial fund the reason is listed

I understand what you are talking about, but I really feel like this is not the place or time to voice your views. I would be really upset if I was reading my spouse memorial and I can across this. The family does not need to read this at the time. I think that all the viewers should be a little more concenrate.

What website? WLTX story says "The family of the fallen Richland County deputy has set up a memorial fund in honor and memory of Darral Lane.

Donations can be made in honor of Lane at any National Bank of South Carolina (NBSC) branch across the state."

So funds are being taken up for the purpose....

Sorry, my bad:) I was getting that confused with his obituary that says you can leave condolences online at a website.

You can BET that the families of the suspects would be filing lawsuits very quickly saying that the officer caused their death by chasing after them, etc. If they had not run the officer MAY not have had to exert himself to the point of a heart attack.
