Warren missed one of the most obvious elements of the challenge that District 5 faces: the school board itself. More notably, the years of turmoil they have experienced. In today's age of heightened accountability, it should further be noted that the challenges of the past five or so years have been stewarded by two school board members: Robert Gantt and Ed White.

Just like we hold classroom teachers accountable for their students, principals accountable for their teachers and superintendents accountable for their principals, we should also hold school board members for their work as well.

Warren's attempt to set up Kim Murphy as a scapegoat for the future of the district is way off the mark. Warren should focus on HOW the district got to this point. The saying goes that history repeats itself. The only way to NOT repeat the negative past of the district is to make sure we are aware WHY it has experienced so much strife. In order to do that, we need to take a much closer look at the duo of Gantt and White. Failure to do so is irresponsible.

Believe me, I am not writing either for or against Murphy and what she does. I am simply pointing out what I have heard NO ONE else say in this discussion. Let's look to the board members who have already been there for YEARS before we cast aspersions on the newest member of the board.
