This wreck has been controversial with the public since the beginning. Police blamed teen, even made his TOX report public after 1 week and then closed the investigation. Closed an investigation knowing that this officer was far from innocent; protecting officers at all costs. UNDISPUTED FACT: The officer was carrying a minor in his car at the time of the wreck. He was supposedly on a burglary call but since when do you carry minors to emergency calls??? Minor was the only person NOT taken to any hospital and disappeared after the wreck. Also missing is the dash-cam video that was actually taken to the Brandon Police Dept after it was seized. Does not take a genius to figure out why it's missing or how it came to be missing. These cops have a lot to answer for.

Funny how the media mentions police "cover-up and corruption" that the story tends to disappear within hours. Where's all the comments now about the Brandon police and the Rankin Sheriff Dept which "investigated" this wreck? You people are amazing! You want so badly to blame a 19yr old but not the almighty police who apparently covered-up their guilty actions. Burglary call! Yea, right! This cop was on some joy ride, doing who knows what, with a 16 yr old boy in his front seat with him at the time of the wreck. Hey McBroom & Pennington, do all your officers take boys along with them on emergency calls?

their are good and bad cops out there it seems the good and honest ones pay the price for the bad ones from cover ups to be falsey accused as in the walters case and the more the citizens of this county let it continue the worst it will become maybe we sould all move to jackson the ones we put in leadership should and will be held accountable they lie to get out votes at the polls then when they sit it their high and mighty leather chair behind their big desk they make their own rules and cater to the brown noisers i hope the family of the deceased young man and the walters family also have their justice.

I totally agree, there are Good & Bad cops. Just hope in these 2 cases the good cops have the courage to come forward & tell all they know about these cases.

last laugh, you said it right! I am not as familiar with the Walters case but i am positive there's more to the story than what Pennington(RSO) has stated. I have kept up with the wreck that involved the Brandon officer & killed the 19yr old back in Nov. Saw all the nasty comments on the CL, as if people wanted so badly to believe that a teenager would do wrong but not a police officer. I also knew there was more to this story. Now some of the truth has come out & I applaud the family for pushing forward against all odds, all the negativity. I commend both families!!!

You think this is bad??? Look at the JUDGES in Rankin Co. Judge Redfern screams at you when you walk in court that you have NO choice but plead Guilty in his court, and has cleared another judge of threatening a MS State Tax Collector with a machete... Redfern cleared the machete-wielding judge of all charges... Judge Redfern will also jail you for mentioning Constitutional Rights in his courtroom.

So... if the judges are like this, what makes you think Brandon P.D. doesn't have the brass balls to look up every poster and critic on this site, and put a bullet in you or your school child getting off the bus???

Wise up... This is Rankin Co. Corruption Rules. People have no rights. Don't bitch, or you're the next "suicide" they find floating in the local creek beds.

people do have rights you just have to fight for them brass balls no way the victums and their families who are tired of the bs have gold balls and we are not afraid of any of them their day is coming soon you just have to be able to get the best and committed attorney you can find and we have found just the right one if anyone needs his name just let me know. that's when you have gold balls and not brass.

People do have rights!!!! The residents of Brandon should stand together to fight for these rights, so as to not let another child die because of the reckless behavior of these police officers. The residents of Brandon see this behavior everyday, yet still they say & do nothing. Police officials are not above the law!

Tiffany, if your 19yr old child was struck & killed by a police officer who was traveling at excessive speeds without sirens & possibly without emergency lights, would you ask questions to how your child died? Then, if you later found out that the officer was carrying a minor on board at the time of the wreck, which would make you question everything about the officers story, would you care enough about your child to do something about it? Every parent that i know would do everything they could to find the truth of their childs death. This officer may have been shook up about this boys death, but in the end the officer is still alive & has the ability to enjoy his life. The 19yr old boy does not have that option anymore, he has no voice. All have only seen the evidence the police have shown the media, but they have proven themselves to be dishonest about this wreck from the very beginning. How can anyone trust these departments that were involved?

I can honestly say, this family IS NOT SEEKING $5 Million. They ARE seeking the TRUTH about the event's that happened on the night/morning of Nov 9th, 2008. In doing this the family needed help, needed answers, & decided to contact an attorney, only because the Brandon police/sheriff would NOT ANSWER any questions regarding the wreck or events leading up to the collision, or the one-week investigation. Now, in saying this, every attorney only wants money and accepts cases they believe that money plays a big factor. The family has never mentioned money with any attorney & never will. Would you want answers when it involved your child's death? The police told one story, but now the evidence says otherwise. Would you not question this? If so, there's only one way to question this, with the help of an attorney.

Per the Tox, which was given out to the media within a week of the wreck as they were pressing the police for answers. Strange how 99.99% of tox reports take 4-6 weeks or several months before they are acquired. BAC was under 0.08 and a non-toxic level of marijuana. RSO quickly gave out this info and closed the "investigation" the same day. Sheriff NEVER reported the Tox on the officer, NEVER reported the officers on-duty actions of that night. It was later found out the officer was on this "burglary call" with a MINOR in his front seat at the time of collision and driving a Minimum of 72mph. Both cars landed 300 feet from impact point. Also, evidence such as dash-cam footage & other pertinent evidence has now "disappeared or is missing" after being seized by the BPD. This story sounds VERY FAMILIAR to the June 09 wreck where a Milford, CN officer, who was driving speeds of 94mph w/o lights/sirens, hit & killed 2 teens. This officer is now charged with 2 counts of negligent manslaughter & 1 count of reckless driving. The 2 teens Tox reports have not been given out, although it's been 5 months and the teens had been reported as drinking at a party one hour before the wreck. The wreck was caught on another officers dash-cam video. Makes you wonder, when all the evidence vanishes, just how far are police officers willing to go?

this isnt the first time brandon pd has covered up an accident like this. in one a guy was seriously injured because the dare officer was joy riding in his new charger. he was doing well over 75 in a 45. completely mangled the lincoln town car. thats a heavy car to be thrown 150ft from the site of impact. brandon pd made a tox report on the guy and said he was at fault becaus ehe had small traces of marijuana in his tox report. which we all know thc can stay in your blood stream for up to 30 days. The guy who was involved now owes $700,000 in doctor bills due to the tox report sayin he was dwi. Shattered pelvis, collapsed lung, bruised ribs, fractured femur, and a dis located shoulder. He spent a week in ICU, had to cover the loss of his car, and lost insurance coverage. Brandon pd covered it all up. i saw the accident, i took pictured up the yaw marks in the street the damages and how fast they got the dare car out of there. they tried to shew me away from taking pictures but i wasnt having that . So as far as im concerned brandon pd has alot of cleaning up to do and they eserve their 5 mil lawsuit.

Adam, what year did this take place & did the victim attempt to recover his losses? Possibly a quiet settlement with contingencies, which I know for a fact the BPD is known to do?

In the case of the Brandon cop hitting the 19yr old, the RSO performed the 1 WEEK investigation. Basically, all they did was sit back & wait for the "rushed" Toxicology report. Investigation...yeah right! How closely do cops work with mayors, DA's & coroners? You might be surprised. Remember that coroner, Steve something, that every cop wanted to use, would even wait for him because every cop knew he would give them the "results" they needed. Where did this certain coroner work & with who? You said it, Rankin Co., right along beside the now Rankin Co. coroner Mr. Roberts. Incidently, Mr. Roberts was one of the few people standing behind the actions of this other coroner when he was fired. Sometimes people will not stop the corrupt things they are doing unless they get caught, but it takes someone to catch them and bring it to the public's attention. If there are "good" cops in Rankin Co they should have already spoken up, they should not be made to do what they know is right.

i am so glad that i found this site! my son was killed in a single car wreck in dec this year he was the passenger. i'm sure none of yall no about this because nothing was reported. the driver was ramping a hill doing excess of 70 mph and car stopped 384 ft away wrapped around pine tree! RSD told me they were reconstructing accident and kept telling me this until 12-22-10. they had actually closed case 12-4-10 without even siting driver with ticket??!!! nothing on report makes sense different dates and time for when my son dies, DID NOT GIVE MANDATORY ALCOHOL AND DRUG TEST AT ALL....NONE GIVEN???!!! WONT ANSWER MY QUESTIONS AT ALL. SO I WOULD LIKE THE NAME OF YALLS ATTY BECAUSE THIS MOM HAS BRASS BALLS WHEN IT COMES TO GETTING TRUTHFUL ANSWERS! THE LEGAL ADVISOR TOLD ME I NEEDED TO TAKE THIS UP IN CIVAL COURT, I'M SURE THIS WASNT WHAT HE MEANT, MAYBE HE AND THE INVESTIGATORS SHOULD DO THEIR JOBS CORRECTLY AND THIS WOULDNT HAPPEN. THEY NEED TO REMEMBER...A VEHICULAR DEATH SCENE SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE A HOMICIDE SCENE...SOMEONE HAS DIED AND SOMEONE CASED THAT DEATH!

oh i need to include this also, the investigator, referring to himself as an expert in accident reconstruction stated that the driver showed no evidence of being impaired therefore the case was closed. this was his written statement from what he saw that evening, case closed same night as it happened not 3 days later. now get this, his last sentence reads....THIS CASE IS CLOSED UNLESS NEW EVIDENCE ARISES AT WHICH TIME I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE AND OR AMEND MY FINDING.?????!!!! WTH??? SO incase he gets caught not investigating like he just did he can change his findings to fit the situation. well not this time (got your name and b# everyone of yall) I was also told by a third party they had contacted that i needed to contact RSO and they gave me a # to call to find out what was going on----cell# of RC cororner and he informed me of my son's death...stating himself that that SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED! I HAVE NEVER NOT ONCE BEEN CONTACTED CALLED OR HAVE HAD UNIFORMED OFFICERS COME TO MY HOUSE AND TELL ME ONE SINGLE THING? DO THEY THINK WE AS PARENTS CARE AS LITTLE AS THEY DO AS OFFICERS OF THE PEOPLE? PEOPLE THAT ARE SUPPOSE TO PROTECT AND SERVE THE PUBLIC, NOT PROTECT AND SERVE THEIR WELL BEING! do they think we cant read or that we'll just take them at their badged word?? i know what bs looks like and smells like and RSD WILL KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE WHEN THIS IS FINISHED!
