I find it interesting that most of the people who wanted and needed a new school for Marsh Fork Elem. are typically on here trashing rich people and big corporations. But who came through with the money to make the school happen. Robert Byrd, Rockefeller, Manchin, cecil roberts, Boss Hog (my new name for Rich Trumpka)? No it was AT Massey and the Annenberg Foundation. The Annenberg foundation was founded by Walter Annenber, the publisher of TV Guide and the largest stockholder of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Annenberg was a big time Republian, appointed as Ambassador to the Court of Saint James by Richard Nixon (this is the plum of Ambassadorships), awarded by Ronald Regan.
It is just proof that all rich people do not just put their money under a matress. Bill Gates and Warrren Buffett, the two richest men in America have given billions to charity.

Btw, I support building a new school down there. It was a crime when they closed the high school. One good reason to vote against Pat Waddell in the School board race.
I dindt see any donation from Al Gore for the school, oh thats right that greedy bastard was taking his fraud money and buying a 9 million dollar mansion. Guess liberals only like to donate other people's money.

I bet Mr. Weingarten who announced the grant and who was the prime mover behind the grant is not a conservative. Also I don't think that either Bill Gates or Warren Buffet are conservatives. So don't be hogging any credit.

I also meant to say "hurray" for the Annenberg Foundation. I think it's fantastic that they have done this for the Marsh Fork community.

Mr. Weingarten didnt make the money for the foundation. John D Rockefeller created a foundation that gives money to the Tides Foundation. The post was about rich people giving money to help good causes. Warren Buffett wasnt so liberal until he got old. I dont think you see Buffet or Gates out there pushing liberal or conservative causes. I just see them as generous. I notice that you didnt bother to mention good ole Al Gore.
At least every now and then I try to be objective, but in the thousands of posts that I have read of yours, you have never one time even attempted to be objective and then accuse me of wanting to start fights. Why cant you just accept the fact that the money for the school came from big business and let it go at that.

Because you were bashing liberals over a grant that came from a liberal. You sound like you want to be able to state your opinion without anyone posting an opposing opinion. I notice that all the people in the photos and mentioned in the newspaper article were "treehuggers" from the Marsh Fork area.

What else are the super rich going to do with their money but give some of it to us poor folk? "Noblesse oblige".

Sorry, but I'm not going to get into an Al Gore fight with you.....I have to care about something before I stand up for it.

PS: I don't have time to be nice....I'm too busy fending off attackers.

The money was not made by a liberal. It was made by a conservative. Of course liberals are hired to give out money from foundations, that is who works for foundations. Conservatives are out working at real jobs making more money for liberals to give away. Oh hell yeah all the pictures in the paper were of tree huggers, the conservatives were out working.
I find it interesting that you love to bash massey, but you have no problem with Al Gore perpetrating a fraud on the world to become extremely wealthy. A man whose family fortune was made on tobacco and oil.
I never asked you to be nice, dont expect that from you. I just asked you to be objective every now and then.
Oh thats right, being a liberal means never having to say you are sorry.

I don't bash Massey.....I just occasionally try to present the other side of the picture to offset your and IC's adoring posts. And I told you I'm not going to argue about Al Gore.

When you stop slashing and burning then I'll try being objective. Until then I've got my work cut out for me.

And finally, there is the much-hallowed ' Factcheck.org '--supposedly an independent, non-partisan clearinghouse that separates truth from fiction in the media and on the Internet.

Hagmann's investigation reveals that Factcheck is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center, which receives its primary funding from the Annenberg Foundation.

Barack Obama was a founding member, chairman, and past President of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, which was also funded by the Annenberg Foundation. Thus, the supposed 'neutrality' of Factcheck.org can safely be called into question.

The bottom line is that so far absolutely no positive proof has been provided that establishes that Barack Obama was born on American soil.

Why is this important? An individual who would spend millions of dollars hiding his background and pertinent documents from the public, and who would make false statements about about his history, cannot be trusted to tell the American people the truth about what his policy initiatives are intended to do regarding the 'fundamental change' of America. What do you think they will be teaching your children?

I don't care what you want to label Annenberg the money donated is wonderful. Annenberg had nothing to gain but to help this community & children. Politics here has nothing to do with a good Samaritan wanting to help for a worthy cause.

Massey's donations on the other hand was. They were forced through public scrutiny to do the little they did.(1.5 million is pocket change to them) However, you can only blame the government for allowing the safety of these children to be jeopardized in the first place. They issued the permits and allowed Massey there. Massey didn't do the moral thing by mining there but it's the governments ultimate responsibility to make sure children are safe in school. It wasn't Massey's responsibility to rebuild.

OMG, anybody who has any sense at all has accepted that Obama was born in Hawaii and is a citizen of the United States. Are you feeling lonely out there in lala land?

capitalist pig, I'll bash any shyster I care to, but Don is who put himself into the spotlight, so c'est la vie.

Economic terrorism, Barack Obama was born in Hawaii. You're spouting nonsense from the birther movement's conspiracy theory.

Here's a copy of his birth certificate:

We are talking about a school that Massey ruined, right? Massey should be required to pay for the entire project, and more, a lot more.

Another misconception

Massey DID NOT BUILD THE PREP PLANT - Armco built the plant in the 1970s. The school burned around 1980 and AT THAT TIME there was a request for the school to be relocated. The then administration of WV, the school board, or any other persons including Bo Webb, Ed Wiley, or Judy Bonds at that time did not request the movement of the school - however there were requests that met with stiff and sudden downplay. So lets recap 1. Massey did not build the prep plant or coal slurry pile. 2. The school used to be so covered in dust that they used to hose down the grass outside.(I know I attended there at the time) This did change with the piping of the slurry by Massey to the sludge ponds and not with the previous OWNERS.

Just post the truth a lot of people have problems with Massey and the people should look back to the early 20th century when the great legislature of this state allowed land companies to buy up (steal) all the mineral rights to peoples property and are now allowing that mineral to be extracted without regard to their neighbors. So I would say your issue is Massey and it should be with your state leaders who continue to this day to make a living from your pain.

Let's fast forward to the present. The school had to move for the safety of their children because of a mindless Massey operation nearby, led by a man that couldn't give a shit less about those children or anyone in any of the WV communities. I know that there are politicians guilty too, but we can work on them at the polls. Don't give Don a free ride just because he isn't the only criminal out there.

you cannot see past your hate for a man and realize your post is so close minded that it borders on rediculous. The operations at the Robert and Schafer constructed tipple complex for Armco is cleaner now that it was then. Who is giving Don a free ride you need to get over your obsessions with a particular company or man and work toward freeing your inner hate to see your campaign will be better off if you see who the real crooks are.

I was working there when Armco built the plant in 1976 and when Massey bought it from Peabody. Massey put in a slate belt to get the slate to the dump. Before that the slate was trucked to the dump which caused a lot of dust from the trucks running on the road right behind the school. Massey made major improvments to the plant after they bought it. One of the improvments was shutting down the thermal dryer which caused a lot of pollution. Massey also put in a rawl coal belt to bring the coal from the mines instead of trucking it.
