We have criminals that do worse things that don't get that type of punishment. This is insane! Shouldn't the police be out looking for CRIMINALS rather than bugging this couple? I feel bad for them. It's not like he was harming anyone.

There is a right way and a wrong way to enter our country. Anytime we enter another country we have to abide by their laws. If he broke our laws by entering illegally, then by all means deport him ; let him acquire the right papers and get things right, then he can enter our country properly and be reunited with his spouse. I am very sorry that a couple is being broken up, but he should have thought about those reprocussions beforehand.
