Unless youve got alot of service time and seniority in,,, there's no future in working these type factory jobs anymore. They don't pay what they used to or offer the vacation, insurance or retirement like they did 20 yrs ago. They say its to stay competitive in the market and with corporate greed, astronomical health insurance cost and the sluggish economy not to mention all the foreign competition, jobs such as these that used to be a career that you could count on to raise your family and have somthing left to show for it all before you retired are dinosaurs. My parents got to retire from the UAW and have good retirements, health insurance and Social Security but they are the last of that era. Its all downhill for the rest of us if we continue to look to factories and cooperations for any quality of life or livelihood and the damage is already done, America has become a Nation of imports We dont build anything here anymore and whats left is on its way out or the pay scale is so low that you need 3 jobs to pay the rent and feed yourself. I'm self employed due to layoffs from cut backs too many times, and I look for Made in America labels on anything I buy ,,which is tough to find now . I have 4 vehicles & 2 motorcycles theyre all American UAW Made, I sure wish more people would pledge to by American again but until they do again we will remain a Nation of imports.

Volvo is an unreliable employer. If you work there, you better be able to make it on unemployment. You will be unemployed. It's more of a blight on Pulaski County than anything else.

Consider the words of Ross Perot, lo, these many years later, when NAFTA was approved.....I believe he said "Listen for the giant sucking sound" of all the jobs leaving the states......l

Volvo trucks are assembled in the US. Many of the parts Volvo's are assembled with are made by a non-union company and over seas while some parts are made in the US. So before you buy a product that says "made in the USA" take a good look as to what it's advertising that for. Some made in the USA labeled products aren't made in the USA, only the packaging ;) Truck drivers know all too well where this stuff comes from and the false claims of advertisement companies use.Far cry between made in the USA and assembled in the USA

Unions served a real purpose in the 20th century by ending child labor, safer work conditions, and a living wage. A big problem today is union workers have priced themselves out of the world's labor market place. A worker whose union demands 30-40 bucks an hour PLUS benefits cant compete with workers overseas for manufacturing. I hear union workers say things like "..what should I do, live on 15 an hour?" when millions of Americans do just that. Union workers have been spoiled by too high wages, etc. They could take pay cuts and still own a home and a car. Of course that might mean selling off the bass boat, the Harley, and that third SUV, but those are all luxuries.

Lose your job and see what these companies want to start people out at today. $10 and hour isn't nothing anymore people. We need unions to come back and help us get better pay. Not saying we need 30-40 dollars an hour but you do need enough to live on. And this bunch in Washington with Obama isn't even trying to help out the working people. No wonder so many are on welfare or selling drugs. You just can't make it on what these people want to pay.

The first problem with unions is all about the money. what about stability and other benefits? next by paying union wages the price of the product has to go up. companies these days has to stay price competitive to keep their doors open. why doesn't the union contribute financially out of their own pocket, like the company does, to help its members financially???? unions are setting on millions if not billions of dollars! greed!

$30-40 bucks an hour ? What Union plant are you talking about ?
Volvo the NRV plant didnt pay that to anyone that wasnt under the old contract , try $15 an hour for a new hire w/ no insurance benefits for nearly a year (8 months if memory serves me)and top pay would be $21 and took years to get there under the contract that is currently in place.
You sound as though your jealous but heres the real issue, you have nothing to be jealous of , they dont pay what you think most of the rehires that got called back are now laid off again and on unemployment and so life goes on and if anyone there had Harleys bass boats and 3 SUV's as you claim then it wasnt from working there unless they were under the old contract and had alot of seniority and time in.

I really need to know if this is true. The way rumor has it is this....They got a new contract in for work and are now calling everyone back in. This means all 3 shifts will be working and they didn't have enough people to work so they have hired new people to train while the plant is shut down for 2 weeks starting this Tuesday. Is there any truth to this or not?
