No, you can't take guns away. Just like you can't simply eliminate illegal drugs and drug use. So, knowing this, what is your next best logical solution for keeping our children safe in schools.
Yes, you can. Machine guns were taken away from people. There is no logical solution because people will not fund it. People want LOWER taxes, not increased taxes to fund all these new guards. I'd like to hear some comments on funding issues.

I like the idea...if for nothing else, to watch the bed wetting libs tinkle a little more because the are (gasp) guns in the hands of responsible citizens.

I kind of chuckled at the comment a teacher made after Sandy Hook: "I will take a bullet for your child", yeah, right before my child takes one as well. I would prefer you give a bullet to the SOB who would slaughter innocent children.

As we Virginians begin this debate, I think CVS has depends on sale...the libs are going to need them.

Signs advertising "GUN FREE ZONES" are just an invitation to the deranged that they won't be challenged when they discharge their particular version of mayhem. Armed law enforcement officers are the safe guard that our schools need in place, and stop calling them school resource officers. Children are not resources, they are children, and those that protect these children are law enforcement officers specifically assigned that task. Specially trained and certified teachers, and other staff should also be allowed to carry concealed inside the school and on the grounds.

A civilian, i.e. non- law enforcement individual, would not be able to shoot someone. The likelihood would be that the intruder would take the weapon, and then have more firepower. Look, instead, at reinforced entrances, alarms, etc. that would automatically close reinforced doors.
Just an idea.

Umm, what do machine guns have to do with this? And, you're wrong because I have two machine guns myself so try again.

.... and why is that? The kids are ALL SITTING "DUCKS" and a perfect invitation for someone to commit mass murder. WHAT IS YOUR SOLUTION (besides 'taking away guns' which
WILL NOT HAPPEN)???

Allow the teachers to carry concealed weapons. After all, if I were a teacher and heard or saw somebody shooting, I would fear for my life and the life of my students and shoot and kill the attacker. What would you do? Cry for your mommy? SERIOUSLY, what WOULD YOU DO?

Fail. Sandy Hook had secure and reinforced entrances. The mentally disurbed perp busted through an interior widow to gain access beyond the check point. Didn't you pay atention to the reports?

Just because *you* doubt that you could protect yourself or others does not mean you should project that weakness onto others.

Are you for real? Do you honestly believe that ONLY law enforcement personnel know how to handle themselves physically and with weapons. Do you have any idea how many men and women you pass on the street every day that have more experience dealing with people trying to kill them than the average law enforcement officer. I know 21 year old's who have made more correct life and death decisions in Iraq and Afghanistan than the average civilian police officer in this country will ever have to make in their entire careers. It is not meant as a slight to LEO's, but it is the truth. There are qualified people who care enough to volunteer. How many more kids have to be victimized by the liberals and their failed fantasies? The society is what it is, there are predators and prey, and there those that are willing to help protect the most vulnerable, and unfortunately there are those that see future victims as future supporters of liberal agendas with sad stories to tell.

Why is it that some people seem to think this is more about annoying 'libs'(or 'gun nuts' for that matter) than acting like civilized people?

Why do you want children to go to school in armed camps that will breed insecurity, fear and mistrust. Do you want to make it harder to do something dum to test your skills? Moron

Its not only the video games that drive the crazies, but the John Wayne movies as well. The wild west was a fantasy people. Most of the people were poor farmers, not gun toting freedom fighters. We need to get over the love affair with the gun. Those screwed up young men think the only way they can prove their manhood is with a gun. And the NRA just enforces that.
The love affair with the gun is why you can spew your thoughts online because we didnt let england take are guns. And what kept other dictators from over running our country.
But if you dont enjoy the freedoms giving to you under the Constitution of the United States of America you could move to mexico where they dont allow guns and are slaughtered by thugs every day, you might feel safer there. Im sure People in Germany felt safer when they where disarmed and a few million of them were rounded up and slaughtered. Or you could go to China, just dont say anything bad about the government cause they either mow you down with a machine gun or just use a tank.

Socialist? Not Great Britain. No one has answered this question in any of the posts: how many armed guards would it take to protect a school so that an armed person could be everywhere to intercept a wacko with a gun? HOW MANY??? You know as well as I do that one is not enough.
Also no one has even touched this question: how do we fund these armed guards? Law enforcement says it will take millions to fund this. HOW DO WE FUND THIS???
So your saying we should fund a 13 year olds birthday gift 4 million dollar vacation to mexico or the 14 or so armed gaurds for presidents kids but are kids arent worth protecting? How about the over 23 billion in stimilus that was sent to GM and Chryslar in China, how does that fund our plants in our country? maybe you will understand my question to you maybe you wont, or maybe you will realize this is just another money and tax scam

Let me put this in simple terms. Bullies only understand one thing....a punch in the mouth. You can't reason with them or plead with them. They are going to do what they want because they know that they can get away with it. If they think they're going to get hit back, they go somewhere else. Training and arming school personnel is a great deterrent. The bad guy will not know who is armed and who isn't and that will give them pause. They don't want to fight, they want to control and kill. Not knowing who is going to fight back will be a great deterrent. It will save lives and prevent crime. Making new laws for criminals to ignore will not help.
Wow, I'm afraid you don't really understand people much. Deterrence does work very well, if it did, there would be no more criminals committing capitol offenses, no more drug dealers engaging in large drug sales of controlled substances that carry harsher sentences, get the picture. Our prisons are filled with people who didn't care about the degree of deterring repercussions. Bullies aren't doing what they do because they know they can get away with it, they do what they do because they don't fundementally care about others. Treating a bully the way you suggest will not stop anything, only escalate the violence. Having an armed guard in school will not stop gun violence. It will much more likely result in the crazy people who think they have a right to treat people with violece, going out and getting a gun bigger than the ones used by your armed security.
