Gee, I thought lawyering was charging the mimimum hourly wage by the hour, wearing Armani suits, talking in twisted circles that creat loopholes...Oh, that's right, it is lawyering

Rilee should have been indicted with the rest of the clowns but the arbitrary and capricious Grand Jury chose not to because he cooperated with Hicks. If Altemus or Ressler conducted business in private then so did Rilee. This is why my friends the indictments will be dismissed and without the guilty verdicts they will not be removed from office.
Same reason why Bains didn't receive and indictment ;-)

The investigation of what? Conspiracy to oust the Administrator and Attorney? They submitted their resignations for crying out loud! The BOS said we accept, your job here is done, thank you and good-bye.
Oh, there were the illegal meetings. But the only ones that can be convicted of participating in illegal meetings are Rilee, Altemus, and Ressler and the three of them supposedly never met together. Woodard and Crewe will be found not guilty because they were not sworn members of the BOS when the meetings took place. So where does that leave us?
Search and seizure of county property, also referred to as Stuck's computer. I can hear the judge now, "Mr. Stuck you were not an classified employee of the county but a contract employee. You used a county computer for your own personal and private business. SUCKER! Where did you get your law degree, University of Phoenix?
Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Interpretations. And where did you receive your Law
Degree, Topix?

Well, I read the new contract and some things seem to be of major interest. Fist thing, Whitley was making approximately 116K when he left the county. The new administrator is going to start at 125k. So this cost the county 9K right out of the gate. And why did they pay so much? Well, the reputation is tarnished so they had to offer more money. And the benefits, the day she starts she has two weeks vacation on the books and she earns vacation at the same rate as a 15 year county employee. As for the other compensation, moving expenses, vehicle allowance, deferred compensation are pretty standard.

Another interesting item is she is allowed to hire her own staff. While I don't believe for a minute she will get rid of anyone, she does the hiring. Again, this is pretty standard in County Administrator's contracts. Which begs the question, when a supervisor or two (do you understand this part Ressler and Crewe) disagree with a department heads decision, they can't fire the employee. Only the county adminstrator can. So, when Ressler and Crewe were pressuring Jay to do their bidding, they really didn't have any authority to do it. And when Lacy Smith didn't fire Jay, he probably know Jay was standing on firm ground and couldn't fire him without bringing scrutiny down on him. He problaby knew he would be indicted like the others if he did.

Another point, six months severance pay. I believe Whitley had only three months. Guess our knew administrator was cautious.

I wish her well and hope she can begin the healing process. I just pointed out these items to show the cost of the foul four's actions and how it continues to cost the taxpayers of the county.

Again, Bains was doing as he was ordered. He just witnessed his boss being fired and threatened. And with the pressure that has been on county employees since the election, he knew if he even questioned TA, he could be next. All I ask is put yourself in his place and tell me you wouldn't have complied. Tell me you would have told TA she isn't allowed to take the computers and is not allowed access to the information on them, knowing you have kids in college and are the primary breadwinner for your family. Tell me you would have cited the law to TA and refused her from accessing the computers. Tell me you would allow yourself to be fired also before doing TA's bidding and I will say one thing. Liar.

Poster #53 brings up some good points. Altemus was practically foaming at the mouth that night if you watch the board meeting. I wouldn't have wanted to be around her - much less try to reason with her. Bains was helpless.

She was foaming at the mouth but enjoying each and every minute. It was all planned. If you remember, she was not even supposed to be Chairman of the Board but told Rilee it would be best. He agreed to take the #2 spot.

Actually, I work outside of Gloucester and believe me when I say that to my co-workers here outside Gloucester, it is the SUPERVISORS who are making our county look bad. They have nothing but praise for the citizens of Gloucester who are intent on straightening out this mess
Thank you for that positive remark. It was very kind of you.

We will all find out the results in the coming months. Meanwhile, continue to tar and feather your BOS. Just make sure you include all that was involved....Rilee. Don't be subjective like the Grand Jury was.

Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, if they ALL had come forth and did what Rilee did, we wouldn't be where we are now. THAT is why he isn't one of the indicted.
Sign the petitons!

Is it true that their court "performance" scheduled for tomorrow, the 8th, has been postponed? And who asked for the postponment?(sp) Gosh, I guess the good pastor is disappointed. I bet he was looking forward to being on camera again.

The case has been postponed. Matt had an article posted yesterday on-line. Just go on-line MP section and you can read it.No Judge to hear it. Woodard does seem to enjoy the attention.

Would John Gotti have died in prison if some prosecutor had told Sammy Gravano, "Hell, no, punk, you're gonna testify and you're gonna like it, and then you're gonna serve the rest of your life in prison?"

They are probably hoping that the public uproar will die down due to the postponement. We cannot allow that to happen. Keep it on the front burner, please, Matt and Tamara!!

Met Ms. Garton today! What a pistol! DOES NOT WANT TO BE ON EITHER SIDE OF THE PETITIONS! Asked not to be approached on the subject (I like her already!). Wants to get to county business. Divorced. Two kids in college, and a dog. If you're a real estate agent, she's looking to sell her old house so she can move here. Can anyone help with the sale??? She has pepper and saltpeter, mixed with enthusiasm and a bit of 'sweet sauce' for a personality. Different from Lane (a great politician too!). I like her. Hope she can rescue us from the dark ages! I think a basket of ham biscuits and a bag of sweet corn as a welcome gift is about her style! Hooray for the beginning of the end of the 'good old boy' network.
