Soooooo we're opening the rest stops back up but cutting back education funding, and people's wor weeks. It would be one thing if the rest stops were not being opened back up, then I could understand that but where are the priorities here. Like someone said before, I can squat at the side of the road for free, or stop at a business, we all make a quic stop at 7 eleven or mcdonalds for a little coffee, that entitles me to pee in their bathroom lol........

Awful lot of hating and name calling going on here. I look at the information and wonder about the prioritization that puts rest areas in front of education. Some of the posts here suggest a real need for education. The rest area re-openings will make it easier and faster for non-virginians to pass through the state (commonwealth)and make "deposits". I would rather they got off of the interstate and bought a meal or anything else when making their deposits. Let's get some out of state dollars in the cash registers too. I view the rest areas as a direct expense, while education as an investment with the potential of a return. Just a thought.

I am completely discusted by the budget cuts in education. Ablemarle needs to make up 15M, while Fairfax receives more money?? That's it, let's just totally ruin one of the best things about VA. Even though I just purchased a home here, I can tell you, if programs are cut from my kids school, I will not be sticking around to pay taxes to this state.
Fairfax County only gets back 80 cents for every dollar they pay in taxes. They have been funding the rest of the state for years. About time they got some back.

You can't stand it can you? Libs are abandoning the sinking Obamaship almost as fast as the US electorate is abandoning them. Perhaps there is a place for you in Barack Hussein Obama's cabinet; right next to Amanda Simpson, the transgendered dudette.
Wow. Just when I thought the anti-Obama crowd couldn't think up a less coherent attempt to be offensive you came along and proved me wrong! Congratulations, Sarah Palin would be proud!

Let me clarify; when I read liberal talking point comments like this: "And Sarah Palin's sycophants continue the idiotic drumbeat...I suppose we could drill off the cost - just in time to avert a budget crisis FIFTY YEARS FROM NOW!"
I assume you are a lib. And libs aren't doing too well these days are they?
NEWSFLASH... making light of Sarah Palin's lunacy is hardly a liberal talking point.

And when I read moronic comments like this:
"Libs are abandoning the sinking Obamaship almost as fast as the US electorate is abandoning them...," I wonder exactly what mental health facility you escaped from.

Most liberals I know are generally pleased with the tack the President has taken and are alot more frustrated with Republican intransigence and Tea Bagger histrionics.

Went in the Albemarle County Office building to pay my late personal property taxes (tough times) & what do I see? A brand new 50" plasma TV mounted on the wall showing upcoming events. Are you kidding me?$2000 + dollars for a flat screen when there are deficits as far as the eye can see. Unbelievable! Here's my suggestion - Across the board 10% reduction for every dept. let the dept heads decide how to do it - The private sector has to do this on a regular basis.

I agree with Disillusioned, I am a State Employee and I work hard, long hours and in very dangerous situations for my money. I do not like the idea of having to take furlough days without pay,,
but I still have a job, which I am thankfull to God that I have.
I will have to tighten my budget more and make do with what I have, but I will survive, and hopefully help someone else not lose their jobs.

Thanks, T from Troy.

I would like to add one more point. While I understand the need for cuts everywhere, I am hopeful that the welfare system gets a hard look and they can seek out the fraud that most of us realize is happening.

I love wandering womb liberals. As for the tack the clean, articulate, light-skinned Messiah with no Negro dialect unless he wants to have one as taken; well, clearly Corruption Queen Pelosi, Thilly Thavage gay ho pimp Barney Frank, and Mr. Vegas Reid himself are not too happy about it. Why? Because their Messiah is a one hit wonder who has accomplished NOTHING except international embarrassment and ridicule, they are scared s***less for their own jobs, and their kook fringe supporters are dropping like flies.

I'm trying heard to find a cogent argument in that harangue - unsuccessfully (again).

"Kook fringe supporters..."??!! Take a look in the mirror, wingnut. Shouldn't you be out flying a plane into an IRS building somewhere?

I want to hear the rationale for McDonnell re-opening the rest stops and slashing other more important items such as workers' salaries and state parks (Virginia was number one in state parks for the country several times in the past decade, and these places generate funds). In other states, they may have no rest stops, but the roads are actually in good repair (unlike many of Virginia's roads). As a taxpayer, I prioritize education, conservation, transportation for Virginia residents (in this order) with access to bathroom facilities for all (especially those just passing through) somewhere near dead last. Regarding the comment about making "deposits"- I totally agree.

In fact i have been wide awake for the past 9 years; and I never saw our President apologize for America, or bow to a foreign leader, or appoint any lunatic to his cabinet. As for your "wingnut" comment, funny you would use that term; I am in fact an ex-USAF pilot, but I wouldn't waste my life flying a plane into a government building; Barack Hussein is doing a perfectly good job of destroying our government himself.

Many employers make their employees take unpaid days down during the year. Why should the state employees be any different? It is not a good situation. It sucks, but it does help. Is it better to take some days down or get rid of the amount of people it would take to get the same savings? I say the days down.
That's a very easy question to answer. Private employees' salaries are based on their market value and they are paid according to the work they do. A person that does an exceptional job may receive a raise, a bonus, a promotion, etc.

State/Public employees' salaries are based on a fixed scale. When times are really good, they may get a small raise or a cost-of-living increase, but not simply for job performance. Of course, this contributes to inefficiency and does not reward hard work, but that's another topic for another day.

Here's a great "proof in the puddin'" example. Many of the individuals currently out of work are the same contractors that were raking in large sums of cash in the '90s and early 2000's. It was possible to make a great living, even for crooked, lazy, individuals that seldom showed up when scheduled and often did poor jobs, for a few decades. Now many of those same individuals can't pass a drug test to get a job at Wal-Mart and there is little available work.

Many honest contractors that do great work are also struggling but many of them are also surviving based on reputation. They aren't making as much money, but that's what the market currently dictates.
are you kidding

Cville Gordo, by calling him Barrack Hussein, you make we conservatives that actually have brains look bad. You don't have to like him, but using his middle name in a poorly-masked racist manner simply makes every stereotype about republicans seem true.

I'm no Obama fan, but the idiot that preceded him was not in any way, shape, or form a conservative. The federal government grew more during his leadership than it did during Clinton's.
