Mom Charged For Allowing Kids To Miss School

There are 3 comments on the cbs2chicago.com story from Apr 24, 2008, titled Mom Charged For Allowing Kids To Miss School. In it, cbs2chicago.com reports that:

“This was met with little or no success and lack of parental involvement and responsibility in sending her children to school”

A northwest Indiana woman has been charged with neglect for allowing her daughters to miss an excessive amount of school.

Sylvia Salinas, 38, of Marbella Drive in Portage is accused of two counts of educational neglect of a dependent, with each charge carrying up to three years in prison.

The first charge concerns a high school-age daughter who missed 58.5 days of this school year by the time charges were filed earlier this week.

The second charge doesn't indicate an age for the daughter, but she had missed 33.5 days when charges were filed. Read more

This is a rediculious charge. This family has been through enough in the past three years, and all the mom was trying to do was protect her kids. She is probably the nicest women you will ever meet, so to try and throw her in jail for something like this, is an example of how the court systems worry more about meeting quotas then the citizens. She was just doing what she thought necessary. We all make mistakes, but i do not want to see any comments posted against her, unless you know the women, because if you don't know the women personally, they I'm postive to you don't know the motives behind this, or the whole story.

So, in keeping her kids out of school to protect them she never considered getting certified to home school them? I'm just sayin
