I am proud we have a local hospital. After an accident in the yard with a bad cut of the finger,
I had to go to Polk General ER. Dr West and his staff did an excellent job in attaching the end of my finger back on. I also returned for follow up
visits. Everything was so clean, and I got the best attention possible. Happy to say thanks to Polk General Hospital that I have the end of my finger. Due to heavy bleeding it was important that
I got local attention.

Glad you had a positive experience. I wouldn't trust them fools as far as I could throw them.

We must've been there at the same time...or do they make a habit of putting corpses on display?

Some people don't appreciate our hospital..until they have to use it. I am proud of our hospital..always have been..if people had any sense at all..think..This hospital as been there for a ling time. I was born there over 50 years ago. Now I've told they might build a new hospital somewhere else..I hope not..they need to stay right where they are. The hospital is Clean and you do get good nursing and doctor care. People need to be proud of our hospital..I will not go anywhere else unless I have too. I get all of my outpatient x-rays and lab there. Our hospital is not perfect..neither is Redmond or Floyd and I hate EMORY..........

Polk Hospital? Clean? are you serious? how in the world can you call a place clean when they leave a 5 inch wide pool of blood to coagulate on the floor? Plainly visible I might add. Asked a nurse to find someone to clean it. She said when she found someone she would. I didn't even stay because it didn't get cleaned for the 2 hours I waited to see the dr. In the middle of the day in the middle of the week. wasnt anybody in the waiting room with me either. ive been there many times over the year and NEVER had a halfway decent treatment.
For example, my visit right before the time where the blood was in the waiting room, i went in because i'd hurt my wrist while on the job. dr took one look at it, no xrays, and said it's a sprain and treated it accordingly. 1 week later i was still hurting so i headed to floyd, turns out that my wrist was broken in 2 places. Not fractured but flat out BROKE. As in snapped. was told that if it had been treated correctly to begin with it would have only been fractured in 1 spot. workman's comp did not cover it because of the dr at polk. had to pay everything out of pocket and i have no insurance.
so, tell me again how Polk Medical is a good place. I'd love to hear it.

Sorry..for you bad experience. Let me tell you about Polk..they are decent and a good place to go..the doctors comes from Redmond. Perhaps you can rely on FMC in the future. I said I hated Emory..only because I FEEL THEY HELPED KILL A FAMILY MEMBER OF MINE. Perhaps. I'm wrong. Also, Redmond is the one who TREATED HIM LIKE SHIT..ONLY BECAUSE HE HAD NO INSURANCE. Polk diagnoised him with his illness prior going to Emory..they transferred him there July 2003..he died November 2003. He was in his early 30's..what the hell u compliaining about..a f...... broken wrist...and a few bucks. Go to REDMOND AND FMC NEXT TIME YOU MIGHT BE TREATED WELL OR LIKE SHIT..WHO GIVES A DAMN. I would rely on Polk..why do people fear blood? It ain't gonna bite..NO LOOK. Better not go to Grady..I hear there is blood everywhere due to Gun Shot and stab wounds..etc. As far as tyour bill is concern I think that is your problem..you can appeal that. bELIEVE THERE IS A WAY AROUND THAT BILL..I'm sure it was expensive..but you are ALIVE.

I don't particularly like Redmond or Grady or Emory because they wont' see me because of lack of insurance AND income. I only go to Floyd because they WILL see me, even if I have no insurance and no income like I do now. I know that legally most hospitals cannot turn away people like me, but they do and filing complaints does no good. I've tried.

Now, I don't fear blood. I fear the diseases it can carry and I hate the general uncleanliness and lack of care that was taken to clean up a mess.

And yes, I'm alive. They "forgave" 25% of the debt. Now, with a $15,000 medical debt with no way to repay it. I've sold everything I can. Even the computer I type on is not my own but owned by the public library. And before someone jumps my ass about sitting on it typing on a chat board. I'm disabled. Got massive nerve damage at my previous job and have 15% usage of one arm (shoulder on down) and 45% usage of the other. Tell me, who's gonna hire me for something? I've looked for 3 years already.

A private hospital has the option to turn you away if you don't have insurance and can't afford to pay. It's part of life and it sucks but Floyd isn't a private owned.

Also, Why did you not hire a lawyer so that you could claim workers comp? There are attorneys out there that will do the work and go to court and then take the fees out of your settlement and I would have sued Polk had that been the case, but that's just me.

No hospital is perfect. I've had both positive and negative experiences at Polk. My latest could have been deadly had it not been for my pharmacy. I'm allergic to some medicines. When I went in, the nurse asked what I was allergic to and it was placed in the computer. After treated by the doctor, I was wrote a prescription and had never taken it before. Luckily, when I went to have it filled my pharmacist had my medical in the system and told me that I could not take it. I did call and I made a complaint.

I got to claim worker's comp for the so called sprain because it was the first diagnosis. The latter diagnosis...worker's comp refused to cover because "no proof of it being the original injury".

As for the lawyer, I never thought to do so because in general I don't trust lawyers. There's always a catch

What's funny here is folks keep saying they don't like Redmond, yet Polk is PART OF THE REDMOND SYSTEM!!!

Now I personally don't like Polk, but that's because whenever I've been there the place is filthy, and the staff are grumpy. The same goes for Floyd. Floyd treats people like cattle.... get 'em in and get 'em gone as fast as possible.

I like Redmond better. Have had 3 surgeries there. The doctors and staff are quite good, are friendly and compassionate. And.......the place is CLEAN!!!

Really...Redmond cleaner? yeah right..the staff at Polk ARE NICE AND FRIENDLY. Redmond gave my Daddy too much morphine when he had surgery there..but he is alive. All of them are money hungry..Redmond out-patient flows like I drink coffee. too many to take care of...

You can still get that bill lowered..get a lawyer sweetheart..he will take care of it and get you some money in return. That way creditors will stay off your ass..also apply for diability too. Just go to the Social Security office in Rome or where ever you live.

She said she has NO income! How do you propose she get a lawyer??? Do YOU have the name of one who will work pro-bono for her??? If so, please post it, so others can go see him/her.

Not everyone who has a disability can get Social Security. Granted, it's worth a try for her to make the attempt, but she doesn't need to get her hopes up to high.

i have tried for disability. I will grant them that Polk took off the 25% off of the top of the bill because I was uninsured. Something they called "The Uninsured Protection" Plan...Floyd does it too...if you fill out paperwork BEFORE you walk out their doors. No matter if you are still in too much pain to comprehend what they want (all hospitals do THAT). I made the mistake of filling out the paperwork they gave me instead of asking for the papers I NEEDED. The ones certifying that I could not pay the bill. Polk SAID that if I'd filled out that paperwork and then attended a meeting after I received my bill, the entire thing would have been forgiven. But I was not told that until 30 days past the meeting deadline, and so it could not be forgiven at all.

As for what 'wishes' said, I have no income. I'm 43 years old and depend on my parents for financial help.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as long as you are paying SOMEthing on a medical bill, it cannot go to collections right? Even if it's $5 a month, which i could have afforded through my parents. Polk's minimum payment is $25 at a time. They send your money back to you if it's any less than that.

I could have afforded to do that for a month or two but that's it. I sent them $10 at a time, it got sent back every time while my bill got bigger. They actually wanted me to get my $15K bill paid off in 3-6 months and would not work with me unless i agreed to their terms.

Are they allowed to refuse payment?

And anyway, I guess i could look into a lawyer. I'll stop paying my medical bill for about 6 months so I can afford him/her for half an hour to see what they say. A serious thanks to Mercedes for trying to keep my hopes up.

I didn't think they could refuse a $5.00 payment. Nobody cn pay $15K in 3-6 months. I'm serious try a lawyer on Main St. Cedartown. All can do is say yes or no..and if they take your case..if u get no money...they get no money. They won't charge you for consulation.:)

Yeah..my sister-in-law is being sued for $1500 because her insurance would not pay because her primary care doctor was in office that day..and they considered it non-emergency. She claimed she signed a paper before discharge if her insurance didn't pay..she would be liable for $50 a month til paid. Actually, to be honest with you I worked there for 15 years mostly in the Emergency Room. But, check out the the lawyer on Main St. George Mundy. Won't hurrt to ask him..I do know mostly his clients are ''disabled''.....
