Sounds as if they should have looked into the situation when the first letter was received instead of just sitting around assuming that things would take of themselves. So this is the only family?? It's the only one mentioned.

Also, why wouldn't Susan Williams know the man's name if he was running for office??? Afterall she is part of the Elections Board and I would imagine they DO know the names of the candidates.

It also sounds like the total number of purged voters was for all of Polk County, not just the city of Rockmart.

Always troublemakers.

Don't understand why they'd take someone off period unless they're dead unless they have reason to know someone no longer lives there. And after her husband or whatever he is has been on here spouting off I'm sure everybody in town who reads topix (which is quite a bit given the comments I hear from folks round town) knows who her family is. If they got the letter they got no reason to bitch but then again it just comes naturally to some.

According to court testimony:
Williams sent list to cities, for Rockmart, that was ROCKMART CITY RESIDENTS ONLY. Herring had someone else mark up list, sent back to Williams, without making a copy!Williams sent letters to 500+ CITY challenged voters(that's 25% of all CITY voters). Over 180 responded that it was error (that is a 40% error rate). Williams removed remaining names from voter list. 30 provisional ballots allowed (another 10% error).

Other interesting facts:
Lewis purchased list from Secretary of State on Sept 8. Makes copies on Sept 14 at Office Max.About same time it was sent to Williams.

Doesn't sound like any of these three were just sitting around!

I think what she was saying was that she knew who she was even though she had never met her, not that she knew the man. How many voters were purged from Cedartown or Aragon? I bet it wasn't even close to 500. I don't think this is about causing trouble, its about standing up for ones rights. I just wish other people who has been affected by this had the balls to speak out.

I would love to hear the process they used to decide what voters to purge and just who was involved in those decisions. This is exactly why their needs to be a limit on how many times someone can be in a political position. They get too much power and then they abuse it.I wonder how many people would have voted if they had not received the letter but didn't have time to deal with the hassle? You shouldn't have to fight for what is already your constitutional right! I challenge the powers that be to put in the paper exactly who was involved in the purging and how they made their decision. This has to be disheartening to our young voters that are just trying to be responsible citizens. It certainly leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

This testimony says it all!!! Who was the someone else that Herring let mark up the list?
If she can't remember and didn't make a copy she sounds pretty incompetent! How cozy are Lewis and Herring??
I hope the ethics commitee really investigates this!!!
Lewis needs to go!!!! I pray Miller wins for all of our sakes.

They used the water bill list. So, if the state voter list said John Doe lived at 10 Elm St, and the water bill list said Bill Smith, then John got reported. The problem is Bill might be renting the house to John and pay the water. Or John might be Bill's relative that lives with Bill. Or the water bill might just be wrong.
It was a terrible way to purge!

Or, it could be like the couple who appealed. They lived on one street and just moved. And TRANSFERRED their water bill. No one checked to see if people did this very thing before purging! Name didn't match, no check to see if bill address was changed, out they go!
Terrible way to purge!

Lets see. Who was the only candidate to mail out a direct mail to the voters? Answer, Curtis.
How much money would he save by being privvy to the list of those removed?

We used to have an ethics committee until Tommy Shaw did the right thing by challenging the Mayor over the Penny Bratcher firing. When the committee was asked to do their job they all resigned and we have not had another since.Curtis then asked Miller to run against Shaw and helped him get elected.Kinda funny now ain't it?
