Lakeland aims to change reputation as homeless haven
Polk County's largest city is developing a reputation it doesn't necessarily want.

It will never happen unless they shut down the Talbot House and all the other downtown shelters. If you keep handing out free meals, they will keep coming. Quit enabling the hobo lifestyle and they will stop coming here. Very simple. The city has let the bleeding hearts hijack our downtown. Sure, help the truly needy until they can get back on their feet, but send the hobos who choose this lifestyle packing.(Maybe give them a bus ticket to DC?) A lot of people I know don't shop downtown anymore because of all the bums. Maybe Lakeland finally has a mayor who understands this? I sure hope so.

It'll always still have it's reputation as a backwards, trailer trash, Bubba filled, cesspool of Florida. No worries about losing that.
