Don't get between a vet and his entitlements -- the only people worse are retirees and welfare mothers!

This well written article gives us another clue why the federal government should not have control over our health. The delivery of services is poor and inept. The Franklin County Veterans Services Commission members has the ability to vote themselves raise, which they have gladly done with a hearty self serving slap on the back. After taking their raises the Veterans Commission blame their poor service on wanting to be good stewards of the tax payer's money. This is the same federal that is trying to limit raises and bonuses in the private sector.

This is a typical government run program. Once started during the Civil War era, the American people are now stuck with an inefficient government commission run by under achievers who are more interested in scamming the system for their own personal benefit rather than wanting to assist the American Veteran. Another shinning example of government waste and inefficiency.

Just amazing how power effects those who have it and clearly abuse it! Suggest a Board or
Committee be put in place to over see the overseer's.

Yesterday I attempted to place a post on this forum venting my personal experience with the VA system. Apparently the Dispatch is controling content that it finds too harsh since it has never appeared. Interesting that an organization that is founded on free speech would censor posts that it might disagree with of find offensive. I spoke in anger. It is still the truth. It is hard to be polite about the VA when you have seen your brother and best friend die while in their care, and now they have their hands on my two children. the entire system is an insult to veterans and as Americans we owe them so much more.

Yeah, it's the taste of suckling at the public teat for the rest of their lives. Of course, that taste of freedom you squawk about from being a veteran is something Rush Limblow, Sean Insanity, Bill O'Whiney, Bill Cunningscam, and Glenn Blech will never know, though Rush has stuffed a lot of things in his big fat mouth.

No one has any control over the Franklin County Veterans Service Commission? What about the Ohio Department of Veterans Services? See the following sections of Ohio Revised Code 5902:

http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/5902.02
(C) Adopting rules pursuant to Chapter 119. of the Revised Code pertaining to minimum qualifications for hiring, certifying, and accrediting county veterans service officers , pertaining to their required duties, and pertaining to revocation of the certification of county veterans service officers;

(D) Adopting rules pursuant to Chapter 119. of the Revised Code for the education, training, certification, and duties of veterans service commissioners and for the revocation of the certification of a veterans service commissioner;

(L) Adopting, with the advice and assistance of the veterans advisory committee, policy and procedural guidelines that the veterans service commissions shall adhere to in the development and implementation of rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines for the administration of Chapter 5901. of the Revised Code. The department of veterans services shall adopt no guidelines or rules regulating the purposes, scope, duration, or amounts of financial assistance provided to applicants pursuant to sections 5901.01 to 5901.15 of the Revised Code. The director of veterans services may obtain opinions from the office of the attorney general regarding rules, policies, procedures, and guidelines of the veterans service commissions and may enforce compliance with Chapter 5901. of the Revised Code.

(Y) Investigating complaints against county veterans services commissioners and county veterans service officers if the director reasonably believes the investigation to be appropriate and necessary;

(Z) Taking any other actions required by this chapter.

Those people who have good reason to do so should address their complaints to the Ohio Department of Veterans Services regards the ODVS's power of "Investigating complaints against county veterans services commissioners and county veterans service officers".

These sections of Title 59 are recent additions to Ohio Law but the ODVS has had two years now to get its policy together for handling such complaints and its time to go to work.

I am a Veteran working for another County's Veteran Services Commission-I can assure you, not all of the Commissions are like this, and not all have Veterans fleeing their jurisdictions. What some are failing to realize- the Commission has two fold responsibilities-Emergency Aid and Helping Veterans get Service Benefits coming to them. What are the other COMPARIBLE counties experiencing. You have to compare apples to apples...

That is absurd. If you can read correctly it was the top individuals who gave themselves an unauthorized raise while their "staff" got a minimal raise. I am an Iraq Veteran and I disagree with you. I don't think everyone should be fired for the criminal activities of a few higher ups they had no control over. I have been to this agency and although I can't say everyone there is the most pleasant, they did process my claim for benefits for me and gave me information I needed. The workers are not who got the pay raises and tried to take away from the Veterans. Their bosses were.

So just because a few people make a mistake, everyone that is working in the agency should lose their job, too! You want fairness, but that doesn't sound fair!

I would agree except open it too all vets....just becouse you been in iraq or afghanistan doesnt make you more important then the rest of the vets out here.
Never believe everything that you read...call the VSC and asks for John Warrix and you will get the Assistant Director, not a Finacial officer and Angela Cline is an Executive Assistant, not a secretary!
