From the Circleville Herald...

A 10-year-old girl was killed Wednesday afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

The car, in which she was riding as a restrained passenger, was struck in the passenger side by a northbound semi truck on U.S. Route 23 at the Sperry Rd. intersection. Driver of the car was taken to Berger Hospital for treatment of injuries, and the semi driver was not hurt.

I'm not sure who is at fault here, but I have seen so many close calls here. It was a matter of time. I once witnessed a semi blow through a red light at full speed, quite a few seconds after it turned. People are tired from work, burn out, etc. and go on across thinking they're fine then all of a sudden... God Bless the family of the girl, and for all other motorist, especially in that area, please be a defensive driver!

i didnt see it happen but was there. looked like the car almost made it across, maybe the truck driver ran the light or maybe she was a little off on her timing. either way this is tragic and my thoughts go out to the families. also wanted to add this is a dangerous intersection, actually 23 is dangerous all together, there was a fatal accident south of this about a year ago where 3 or 4 people died as a result of a semi truck not paying attention and rear ended another truck carrying 4 people, they burned to death. they do need a better alternative to 23 down here for sure. it the most dangerous road i have ever been on especially when it comes to semi wrecks. see them ALL the time down here. just look for the black marks youll see what i mean.

Just heard on the radio some more details:

The driver of the car was 17 years old. She turned left in front of the semi, who collided with the passenger side slamming it straight into the traffic light pole.

I pray for the trucker's sanity. Even though there's nothing he could have done, he's going to live with that for the rest of his life.

Speedy recovery for the driver.

Rest in peace sweet little girl.

The rest of you, let this be a lesson to all of us- for God sake, please pay attention.

i was there and the second off duty firefighter that tried to help her,I believe there was no suffering for this pour girl who was just a innocent passenger of a real bad accident. I agree there needs to be more done about these intersections ,they have warning flashers at the intersections on both lights before and after this light but were are the ones for this one, well maybe now they will do something about it , my thoughts an prayers go out to her fam. and the driver of the car. As for the truck driver well i guess he should have been paying more att. to what was going on cause from what i seen he didnt even try to stop or hit breaks till right before he hit...As a fire fighter it is always hard to deal with loosing someone u try to save but we cant always do what has to be done in all cases.

first there was no way the driver was turning left ... the semi dead center t boned that car ... and second there was no light pole envolved either ... when the semi and the car both came to a stop the car centered with the out side lane of the north bound lane not even close to the light pole as far as the semi it was damn near jacknifed it hit the car so hard taken up both lanes of the north bound lane . almost to where it was impassible by on coming north bounders .. this is the problem with radio and ppl that dont know what they are talkin about .. my only regret was not stoping even after the squad got there right infrount as it sped past me and a few other cars there still would have been nothin i could have done to help anyways but offer some words of kindness.. and still the semi driver should live with it for the rest of his life and his cdl's should be riped from him for not paying attention and runing the red light !!!
