My name is Louis Smith and I was arrested by the FEDS on Sept 28, 2011 just last year. I was housed in the County Jail their in Pearl River County. I was placed in the Medical Department to be watched for a few days because I was very depressed. My brother is Joe Smith who is running for Sheriff in Pearl River County. I did not have a clue what I was in store for. I was asaulted by the Head male nurse at the Jail in Sept of 2010. He twisted my arm and made a statement to they should take me out back and shoot me. I was transported to Wiggins, MS Jail for the rest of my stay. Even the FEDS told me that the Pearl River County Jail was not ran very well. I'm aware of other inmates that had the same problems I had at the jail. I even sent a letter to the Allison and he never replyed. I have since be released from Jail by the FEDS and I intend to fill charges against the Nurse and Pearl River County Jail.
So be watching for Charges against Pearl River County very soon.

My boyfriend has been incarcerated at the Pearl River County Jail since Dec. 2007. Over the past 2 months, he has informed me of some inmate abuse that is going at this jail--from witnessing COís over use of pepper spray and taserguns to other inmates, to himself not receiving bare well needed necessities (he didnít receive a blanket/pillow for 2-3 weeks).
Iíve heard and read that this jail is currently under investigation for inmate abuse, but my question to PTO is: Has anyone heard of this / or have been through this at Pearl River?

A federal lawsuit concerning the death of a Hancock County inmate at the Pearl River County Jail has been settled.
The suit, Shelly Champagne versus the Pearl River County Board of Supervisors, the Pearl River County Jail, Southern Partners Health Inc., Hancock County Sheriff Steve Garber, and the Hancock County Board of Supervisors and others, was set for trial this week.
The case, however, has been dismissed with prejudice, with all parties agreeing on a confidential settlement, attorney for Hancock County Bill Whitfield said Tuesday. Whitfield said a settlement conference was held in January and it was not made official until just recently.
Champagne is the wife of the late Terry Trybulski.
In May 2007, Trybulski died at the Pearl River County Jail of an apparent heart attack.
He was a Hancock County inmate being housed at the jail.
He was arrested on October 31, 2006 on drug charges and later transported to the Pearl River County jail. He remained in custody until his death on May 3, 2007.
The reason Trybulski was in Pearl River County is because Hancock County's jail was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Ever since, most Hancock County inmates have been housed in Pearl River.
The suit claimed that Trybulski's death was the result of negligence on the part of Pearl River County deputies and medical staff.
Champagne claimed that Trybulski had not been getting the proper medications at the jail and that he even saw a jail nurse to complain about his ailments the evening before his death.
After the death, the FBI was later called to investigate, but no criminal charges were ever filed.
Champagne filed suit in March 2008. She was seeking $5 million in damages.
Hancock County was named in the suit because it ultimately was responsible for Trybulski's well-being because it was the jurisdiction which arrested him.
Whitfield said the defendants will each pay a portion of the settlement.
He said the settlement amount was deemed confidential by the court.
"The only thing I'm allowed to say is that Hancock County's responsibility to the settlement is nominal," Whitfield said.
Hancock County Attorney Ronnie Artigues said Tuesday that the county pays liability insurance for such lawsuits.
The county will pay its portion of the settlement through its insurance deductible, Artigues said.

For you Information I did not break the LAW.. You are judging me before you even know the Facts. In November of 2008 I filed for my Social Security Disability because I became unable to work. I suffer from Bi-Polar Disorder and I have other mental Problems. I've been in and out of mental Hospital since I was a little Child. I was marked with someone with a learning Disability at age 7. I was even in Special Education up until the 10th grade and had to drop out because I was too old to go the school. I have tried to hold jobs but none of them ever work out for me. I've had over 150 jobs and none of them lasted more then 6 months. So, does that tell you that I must have some issues????
In November of 2008 I filed my Soical Security Disability and the ODAR office in Hattiesburg, MS (Judge Williams) was giving me a very hard time with my case and kept putting off my hearing date. He even had a Medical Doctor who lied under oath in one of our hearings. I reported that he had lied to the Judge and I showed proof of it to the Judge and nothing was ever done about that. I was under the mental treatment at Pine Belt Mental Health and attented the Oaiss Club house witch was a part of Pine Belt Mental Health. One of their Staff member made up a story and said I was going to Treaten the SSA. I never may any such treat and it was her word against mine. I was arrested by the FBI on Sept 28, 2010 just one day before my hearing and charged with treating the SSA. I severed 7 long months was something I did NOT Do. While in Jall I was abused and asalted by two inmates. I was even raped at the FCI in Englewood, CO and nothing was done about it. I've since be released and got time severed by a Judge in Hattiesburg, MS. I once again filed for my Social Security Disability and have ask for help from Thad Cocken. I feel it was unjust what the USA did to me.
