"And you wonder why people are not going into teaching??" Albemarle hired 120 new teachers this year.
How many will stay longer than a year or two and make a difference? In this economy, all kinds of people will accept a teaching job. It is quality that is important, not quantity.

Fortunately there is quality and quantity available in the area. New teachers bring energy and optimism to the system. Some will leave after a year or two, sure, but you can't say with any certainty that there is a universal reason. For good teachers NCLB benchmarks are ridiculously easy to teach to and a subset of what they are already teaching. Most of the objections to the benchmarks are ego driven; the graders donít like to be graded. We need to stop the blame game and fix the problems.

You would think with the hightest taxes in Virginia, that at least a few kids in Fluvanna could pass the test. Maybe the $90 milion pile of bircks they are building will be able to teach the kids.

Of course the schools have failed. They are full of tenured lazy unionized good for nothing bums claiming to be teachers. Kids deserve better.
Try not to paint all teachers with the same brush. There are some dedicated teachers out there, who have burned themselves out, trying to get the parents involved in their childs education. The parents share the lions share of the blame, when they refuse to support the school, and attend parents/ teachers conferences. Parents need to be proactive, when it comes to their childs education...
