(Corwith Township, MI)–(December 1, 2011)– Corwith Township officials have approved the distribution of a prescription discount card, free to all area residents and visitors. There are no residency requirements - anyone can utilize the new card for prescription discounts, anywhere in the U.S. and territories (including Puerto Rico and Guam).

The Corwith Township GOV Rx Card provides “Guaranteed Outstanding Value” with savings, up to 75%, off brand-name and generic drugs. The card is pre-activated for immediate use over 2100 Michigan pharmacies, and 58,000 pharmacies nationwide, including all major chains like Walgreen's, Rite Aid, CVS, Meijer, Kroger, Walmart, Kmart, and Target, as well as most smaller independent pharmacies.

Corwith Township GOV Rx Cards are available through a number of channels. All area businesses are encouraged to share cards with employees. Print or request cards online at . Text 'corwith' to 567-MY-GOV-RX from any text-enabled cell phone. Cards will also be available via counter-top Take-One Displays located in and around the township at health-care providers, businesses, restaurants, and churches. If you'd like to place a Take-One Display in your place of business, to help your patients, supporters, or employees, or customers who you serve, please call 1-855-MI-GOV-RX (that's 1-855-644-6879) to have one dropped off or delivered via U.S. mail. Free cards will also be made available, by request, at most participating pharmacies in the Otsego County area, and are available at the Corwith Township offices as well.

The discount cards are welcome news to those earning too much money to get government assistance but not enough money to afford prescription insurance. The card also helps the growing number of under and uninsured people, including the unemployed and self-employed, those working part-time jobs, and the elderly.

People who have prescription coverage can use the card for discounts on drugs not covered by their prescription plan, for prescriptions filled for other non-insured family members, and for many pet prescriptions filled at the local pharmacy.

Who needs this card? Everyone, regardless of income, age, health condition, insurance or residency status, and for a very good reason. It's difficult to predict when an injury or illness will occur for you or your pet, requiring a prescription that's more than you can afford, or not covered by insurance.

In addition to the discounts, the program provides secondary benefits to the community. No taxpayer money is being used to provide the cards - the program is 100% funded by the fees paid by participating pharmacies each time cardholders save money using the card. Pharmacies benefit from the traffic the cards produce, and rely on the cards to fill prescriptions that may otherwise go unfilled. The program also generates new, non-tax revenue for the township, which receives a royalty on every prescription discounted by the card. Plus, business owners and charities will benefit from prescription savings left in the pockets of cardholders, which can be spent or donated in the local economy.

Any questions regarding the program can be directed to the toll-free Cardholder Service number, 1-855-MI-GOV-RX (that's 1-855-644-6879).
