Black History Two Africian Americans have Resolutions pending at the General Assembly at Columbia, South Carolina.One is to extablish "A Eartha Kitt Day in S.C." and the other is to name U.S Highway 301 from Interstate 26 to Homestead Road to honor the late political figure Thomas Moss.Both South Carolinians have contributed greatly to South Carolina and beyond. February, 8th will commemorate forty three years of the Orangeburg Massacre.Many were hurt and Samuel Hammand, Delano H. Middleton and Henry Smith loss their lives. All in the pursuit of human dignity.I truly believe that a simple act of kindness can bring about healing and resolve to a complex period in my hometown,s history! I am most honored that some of my papers on Civil Rights Remembrance Day has been accepted at the Schomburg Center.The work includes noted icons of the Orangeburg Movement such as Dr.Gloria Rackley Blackwell,Dr. Cleveland Sellers of the Orangeburg Massacre,Cecil J.Williams,Hon.MatthewjJ.Perry Jr.,Hon.James E. Clyburn,Dr.Geneva H. Southall,Dr.Robert E.Howard and many others.The Schomburg Center most recently accepted some of Dr.Maya Angelou,s papers.The Schomburg Center in Research on Black Culture is the largest repository of materical on people of African decent in the world! February 8th, will be 44 years since the Orangeburg Massacre The Orangeburg Massacre is included in my work on Civil Rights Remembrance Day. I am a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina,and is still affected about this tragedy in my hometown.I hope people know that the late Mayor Martin C. Cheatham included the Orangeburg Massacre in a proclamation on May 4th, 1997 I do want the family members of Delano H. Middleton, Samual Hammond and Henry Smith to receive copy of this proclamation if they have not already.I am forever grateful to Mayor Cheatham for his support for my work for civil rights in Orangeburg.
