That is one heck of a freak accident. The title makes it more scary though. It seems he got hit, not exactly run over. And then of all things...the mower catches fire...

WTF? Is this really a newsworthy article? Give me a break, this is just laziness on behalf of WHEC. I think the reporters just sit in front of a bank of police scanners and listen for interesting incidents, lol.

I would agree, with one exception...I think I-Team does a MUCH better job at investigative reporting than ANY other news source in town. The D&C should be shuttered and closed, banished to a word prcessor factory in Taiwan. They are a complete embarrassment to "real" reporting as was done by newspapers in past eras.
They dropped the ball on so many stories, the GPD, the Ferry, the Rhinos/Amerks Donner fiasco, Grady and his crony factory, the Kodak kickback mess. I have to hand it to BB and BD, they do rock the boat when it needs rocking.

Now that's a true example of extreme strength in times of emergencies! She lifted the mower off him and flipped it over!! WOW, that's amazing, kudo's to the woman, sounds like she saved him from much more harm!

This is why children should be taught that machines are not toys and that they could not be messed around with. They should be taught to stay a safe distance from a person mowing, weed wacking, chain sawing, headge trimming, etc....It drives me nuts when I see a child playing in the yard that is being mowed....And what about those parents that let their little ones "help" mow (walk between the mower and the parents Helping push the mower) UGH!!!
This was a accident but the child should have been taught not to go near a running machine!

He didn't get run over but she had to lift the mower off him? How would that work?

Guess they were playing x-games and the kid wanted to see if he could take the bike over the mower. Guess kid didn't make it huh. Why would anyone have a mower on a lawn and not be using the blades? Oh yeah, to play w/it, I guess. Hey kid, next time make sure you have a jump rack or a mound in front of your bike to help you get airborne! Glad you're safe this time. And mom, get a brain!

You obviously did not read the story carefully. The boy rode his bike in front of the mower & then lost control & fell. Her not seeing him has nothing to do w/ it, & as for negligence, the only negligence is on the boy's part for not being careful. I do hope the boy or his parents pay for her new mower; if they don't, then she should sue for the cost...those things are expensive & why should she have to fork over the $ b/c some kid didn't stay on the sidewalk/road.(Of course, if this boy is her kid, then...well, it's "all in the family" & nothing else can be done, except maybe giving him some bike-riding safety lessons.)

I read this 3 times just to make sure I was right, but no where did it say that this child was run over by his mother. But some idiot said, mom get a brain. I took it further and read the Canandaigua paper and it did not mention that the women was the child's mother. It also said that the mower blades were disengaged at the time, which someone early said that why was some one riding a lawn mower with the blades turned off. Well it doesnt take too much common sense to figure out that if your done mowing and your taking this piece of equipment back to a storage place why would you have the blades running? Al so if the blades were running, when the women jumped off the seat there is a kill switch that cuts the blades off. Some people that I know bypass this safety feature which is strongly not recommended. And every time you read about a child being hurt or worse deceased, the first thing you hear from ignorant people is, where was the mother? where was the parents. I didn't know there was such a thing as a perfect parent or child. In fact when I hear that remark again I'm going to respond by saying that the mother was with your husband.

You are correct, that no where does it say (or not say) that this boy is Linda's, thus why I said that either the boy or his parents should pay the cost of replacing the mower UNLESS he's her child.
