Leave these kids alone part of me says they are just being kids and it wasn't too long ago when 18 was legal drinking. Other side of me is more conservitive and thinks they need to be disciplined. People are getting more police and arrest happy it seems.

At 18 teens can obtain a license, go to war to shoot, kill and be killed, can live on their own, vote etc...yet they can't drink??

Teens are unexperienced drivers that do not need the effects of alcohol to make their driving worse. Lock them up for the weekend.

Wasn't that long ago? none of these kids were even alive when the minimum age was moved to 21

IF they are old enough to be CHARGED, meaning they are ADULTS, then they should be able to drink alcohol..
it is not underage drinking if they are ADULTS.. and in this country ADULT means 18 and older.. it is crazy that they can die for the country, vote, sign a contract, go to prison as an adult, get married but at their own wedding they can't have a drink..
This is crazy.

They can't be charged as juveniles?
Maybe instead of lowering the age limit for alcohol we should consider raising the age for admission to the armed services...I don't know which is worse, sending an 18-year-old off to war or watching him kill someone with an autommobile after having too many beers...

at 18 a person is an adult in this country it is crazy to tell an adult he/she can not participate in an adult activity. The SAME 18 yr old can be charged as an adult for DWI yet can not purchase or consume alcohol.. if they aren't old enough to drink how can we charge them as an adult?
It makes no sense.
So NO it is NOT underage drinking, underage implies under adult age. I question the whole idea of having a law that disallows ADULTS to do ADULT things.
Have ONE age.. if it is 21 fine, no one under 21 should be able to get married, be charged as an adult, sign contracts, serve their country, rent an apartment, buy a house and anything else ADULTS can do..
They can purchase GUNS but can't drink a beer.. they can get a pistol permit but can't drink a beer. This law is CRAZY.
Teach your children and then hope you did a good job. The government should not be telling ADULTS what they can and can not do. Consuming a LEGAL beverage should be the right of any ADULT. Heck, they can SMOKE cigarettes at 18 but can't drink a beer. This law makes NO SENSE.
and Customer you are wrong, "people" don't call the adults, the law does.

I don't think you know what the law is. It doesn't say you have to be an adult to drink. The law says you have to be over 21 to be able to drink. Last I checked 18 is not higher than 21 "adult" or not.
so you are wrong.
I do agree that it is a stupid law and the age should be 18.
But just because you don't like a law doesn't mean you can break it and not expect to be punished.
It's the same thing with weed. People say that is a stupid law - that’s fine, have that opinion, but don't be surprised when you get arrested for doing it.

What the kids need to do is turn off the video games and watch the news, read the newspaper so maybe they can see the consequences if they decide to take that route. Will it be a wake up call, I would hope, but I don't think so. Young people, think about what your doing because your not just hurting your self, your hurting family and innocent people. I'm not trying to sound like a snow white because I'm not. How come we haven't heard from anyone from M.A.A.D. on this?

Even if the legal age was 18, 4 of them would still have been arrested because they are under 18 and then the other 2 would have probably gotten arrested for providing to a minor. Either way they bad a bad choice and have to live with it.

PARENTS........where were they while the "young adults" were partying it up? Especially if someone passed out in the front yard. At this age, they are inexperienced and do not know how the alcohol will effect them. It will effect everyone differently.

Actually a few States, mostly Southern where The Military has bases, these states have started the process to make it legal for ONLY Military Personell age 18 and up to be legal age, Non Military age laws will not change in these states. Why does every one blame the parents? maybe they were on vacation, a business trip, etc, remember when you point your finger at some one that you are pointing three fingers at your self.
