This was not a MudFest-it was a DrinkFest and ride whatever you have in the mud! I have attended the L-Cross MudFest which seems to be a much more controlled enviornment. This one was "let as many people as you can in and NO kind of rules". I was unfortunate enough to witness a horrific ATV crash right next to my motor home. A young man was flying across the parked vehicles and hit a ditch. He was ejected from his ATV, slid under a trailer parked next to me and slammed head first into the rim of a parked pick-up. My husband and I went to him-he was unresponsive but spitting up blood. I called for medics and let them know of his severe head injuries - they would need to airlift him. They did but I do not know if this young man made it. I alos heard about a swampbuggy that overturned killing a 3yr old child and injuring a 5 yr old. I will NEVER attend this event again. I am blessed that my husband, my daughter and 2 young grandchildren escaped the weekend without a scratch. They need to put limits on how many people enter this event and need to stop the drinking and driving. People were literally falling off of trucks, atv's & swamp buggy's but they always managed to save their beer. Pure craziness and greed. Shame on the property owner for being so greedy to allow in excess of 50,000 people in @$30.00 each). She can certainly afford better security and instill some rules!

I do have to agree with the absolute craziness. It was my first time there . I loved the whole idea of it ,yet it was so dangerous once I got there . My boyfriends kids witnessed this accident of the young man under the trailer . They came to get me to do cpr , when I got there medics just pulled up. Cindi I beleive you might hve been the lady in the motor home when you were trying to tell the police officer that you already called for a trauma unit an he quite rudely told you he already knew that. We understood you were trying to help. Kudos to you. I have been praying for him as well. I cant get my mind of this young man laying there fighting for his life. I have heard if this is the same young man that he has multiple broken bones in his face, two collpased lungs, and a bleed to his brain , but is still hanging in there . Ive searched for any info online since the day that I got home from there, and nothing until I found this tonite . I beleive more coverage should be done to let people be aware of what really goes on there , and it just seems to be very hush hush. I also was quite disappointed that the accident took place at approx 11:55 and the lifeflight didnt land until 12:49 thats enough to make me never want to go back again, and as you said as much money as they make and all they are responsible for is providing you the mud, they could have a much better organized event. If I hear anymore about this young man I will be sure and post whatever I might find .

I am the cousin of the young man that had the trailer accident. He is hanging on for his life in melbourne. If any eye witnesses could call me and let me know what they saw, it could help save his life. Right now, he has broken neck, every bone in his face, collapsed lung, brain damage...

The Okeechobee News would like to followup on the accident. However, due to HIPPA rules the officials could not give us the name or details of the accident victim. If the family would like to give the Okeechobee News more information, please email reporter Eric Kopp at [email protected] The newspaper would like to hear from anyone who was at the event who is willing to go on the record.

It was a tragic thing that happened to the young man wrecking his atv, but you sign a disclamer going into mudfest stating you know the dangers and are fully aware that if anything happens you are responsible. Mudfest has always has been a place for LOTS of people from around the nation to come and party personally if you are bringing your children and grandchildren to this place knowing there are adults drinking and driving you shouldn't be blaming the mudfest sponsor. They provide an entire fire rescue team, 100+ security personel, but you can't stop stupidity.

My name is Cindi and my husband and I were the 1st to Danny's aide. We did NOT move him as we could see possible neck/spine injuries. I spoke to him to try to get a response but there was none. I called for medics and an airlift due to his crtical injuries. His friends kept trying to move him and we tried to stop them. The medics came within 7-10 minutes. Please provide my name and email [email protected] as I would like to know how he is doing. Yes, I did see the accident as well. It was horrific.

Please anyone-family members of Danny - please let me now how he is. I was the one who called for help. This happened right next to my motorhome. My husband and I saw it and will never forget it. Family members should consider legal suit against the property owener as she was responsible for allowing as many people as she could on her property for the almighty dollar. There are loop holes in every release. Find a lawyer - this woman needs to pay and never be allowed to do this again!

Simon-I have done noting but pray for Danny since I saw the accident. I am the one who called for medics and the chopper. My husband and I rushed to your cousin immediately and could tell how critical he was. I spoke to him and called him by name to let hime know help was coming and to hang on. His friends were a wreck and wanted to move him. We pulled them aside and said NO as this could worsen his injuries. The medics did use a backboard when the moved him and place it on a golfcart. The ground there was very bumpy so I do not know how the ride to the chopper was. Please contact me as we did see the accident-it was right next to our motorhome (10ft). I hope & pray for your cousin and do not feel this was his fault-there were no signs marking a ditch which he hit and then went airborn. God Bless You and your family! Cindi Buckel [email protected] email me & I will provide ph number.

I am not trying to be rude by any means but I personally know this young man and he was never given a waiver to sign in case of something that happened. I have been to these mudfests and they are very unorganized and there are way too many people for this to be safe. Yes the sponser or these events should be at fault. Out of 6 major accidents at that mudfest of CHILDREN 18 and under he was the only to live. There is a reason that the sponsor has insurance and they should take care of these expences. They are making a killing providing a place for people to do very dangerous stuff... Drinking and driving... having thousands of people doing that in a small area is rediculous. But for anyone who is wondering Daniel is doing great but still he needs prayer keep him on your minds and in your hearts!

To Ashley, I am soo glad to hear Danny is doing better. I have though of him just lst week when my husband and I went to Croom (where there are rules!). I did nothing but visualize Danny's accident the entire day. The 1st rule they should have is NO riding sround the campers; 2nd they should have separate areas for 4-wheeler and the huge swamp buggies. L-Cross does their Mudfest right. They have rules and enforce them or you are out of there for good. I know Patti Pierce out at L-Cross and I know how upset she was about this. We have been to L-Cross several times and never had an issue. Please keep me updated on Daneil's progress...is he still in the Hosp? Which one? I would love to see him again - in better shape then the last time! God Bless
